Sanjana (Kareena Kapoor) is a young woman, full of life. She has just graduated from college and is not happy about the concept of arranged marriage, much to the dismay of her mother Susheela (Himani Shivpuri). Roopa – Sanjana's older sister who has settled in the U.S., phones her parents and informs them that her friend Prem has seen Sanjana's picture and is interested in getting to know her. Prem is a wealthy businessman who has also settled in the U.S. with his parents. Sanjana is not pleased with this development, and she eventually meets Prem Kishen (Hrithik Roshan). At first, Sanjana cannot stand the enthusiastic and outgoing Prem, and she plays a series of pranks on him, together with her friends. As they begin to spend more time together, they put their differences aside and eventually fall in love, much to the delight of her parents – who also love Prem. Prem returns to the U.S. for work and promises Sanjana that he will be back soon. Suddenly, however, Roopa informs the family that her friend Prem could not make it so someone else was sent in his place. Sanjana's confused parents find out that the man who is here is not actually the wealthy N.R.I. Prem Kumar, whom Sanjana was meant to meet. Rather, he is Prem Kishen, an employee in Prem Kumar's company. Prem Kumar (Abhishek Bachchan) arrives soon afterward to meet Sanjana and begins to have feelings for her. Sanjana's mother slowly tries to push her towards Prem Kumar, though her father (Pankaj Kapur) has reservations because he knows how much Sanjana and Prem Kishan are in love. Prem Kumar and Sanjana begin spending time together and become friends due to their common interests, but Sanjana is committed to Prem Kishen. Prem Kishan returns to Sanjana's house, where he is treated coldly by her mother and witnesses Prem Kumar's feelings for Sanjana. He emotionally reveals the truth to her – that his boss was supposed to marry her and not him. Sanjana is devastated. A marriage is decided for Sanjana and Prem Kumar by their respective mothers. Prem Kishen's loyalty to his boss and his boss' happiness forces him to leave and let the marriage go on, while a heartbroken Sanjana agrees only for the sake of her parents. Ultimately, Prem Kumar learns the truth and unites Sanjana with Prem Kishen.

Eden Lake is a little known British Horror-Thriller back from 2008. Its big claim is that it stars Michael Fassbender. Rest of the way, it was a textbook thriller, with Slasher and Snuff elements. There were a few good things about the movie and you'll find almost all in Anushka Sharma's latest NH10. The inspired story, is adapted to an Indian setting. Certain changes are actually pretty good. But once you know the movie is inspired, it just robs you of all the drama and fun. It would be safe to say, if you haven't heard about the original then you're in for a decent surprise. These kind of Indie horror thrillers have never been attempted in Hindi cinema. You wouldn't have seen something like this before.

It's pretty evident, the film won't score any marks on its borrowed concept. Where it does deserve a critique is its execution and treatment. The story deals with a young couple driving out to their vacation. Unfortunately they run in to a group of Jats out on an honour killing. Arjun (Neil Bhoopalam) is swayed by adrenaline and a saviour complex. He decides to meddle with the gang of unruly and angry North Indian men. And that's where the fatal chase begins. The basic story has been tweaked here to include elements of honour killings and women empowerment. That's what makes this movie worth while.

It's good to watch a woman who's more level headed than her better half. Who can smoke a cigarette just for the sake of having one. Who can drive a car better than any tom, dick or harry in Delhi. And one who doesn't take things lying down. That's Anushka Sharma's character, the spirited Meera. Everything about her makes this film better than a run-of-the-mill DVD replica. Having said that, Eden Lake's big punch to the gut comes from the sense of peril experienced by its female lead. In NH10, that sense of despair doesn't hit you. You've got a regular Delhi girl on the run from ruthless men. If apprehended, she'd mostly be raped and killed. But the film never quite manages to establish that tension. Anushka's character sails through the challenges with too much ease. In movie formula terms, the bad guy never gets his moment. That's never a good sign in a thriller.

Director Navdeep Singh's treatment of the film is slick. The visuals are appropriately dark and murky. The sense of gloom prevails throughout. It sets the right mood. But when it comes to the final act, he drops the ball. That Anushka's character is not the clichéd victim is great. But when it comes to believing in her struggle, its a bit pat. Her sense of loss and her on-the-edge situation are too incidental. Anushka handles the myriad emotions with aplomb. She's great in the action scenes too. The actress is the main reason you connect with the character. Her performance reverberates the right kind of energy into the film. But then you have the creative making her do ludicrous things like killing a man with just a ball pen. It just defeats the whole purpose of things.

Performances by Neil Bhoopalam, Darshan Kumar and Deepti Naval are credible. None of them falter, not even a bit in convincing you about their characters. As for the film itself, it does not offer the same conviction. It has the trappings to sway the average Hindi movie buff, some might even see a great leveller in it. But to the Hollywood regular this one's just another release.

Engels Ramasamy is a Nagercoil-based news anchor working for Nanjil TV, a not so famous channel. His family consists of his single mother, paternal grandfather and three sisters. Engels was rejected by many girls for marriage as his family is poor and his father had abandoned them. One day, the family plans to leave for the Venkateswara Temple, Tirupati for the fourth time, only to cancel it as the youngest sister has got of age. They soon realise that they should go to their family deity Mookuthi Amman's temple to seek good luck, so they head there and stay for the night. During their sleep, Amman appears in human form at the temple, which Engels witnesses. He soon realises that only he can see her as he is a god-chosen child. She decides to improve the family's life, but in return, Engels must popularise her temple. After he complies, he decides to make his family members' dreams come true with the help of Amman. He asks the eldest of the three sisters what she wants. She asks him for a day-off as she dropped out of school, she has been the house's homemaker and has never enjoyed life like the other members of the family. Amman also tells him that not all men appreciate what women do for them every day. After that, he guarantees her sister weekly Sunday holidays. Bhagavathi Baba, a godman, enters the Mookuthi Amman temple and announces that he will construct a town named Panchavanam, which will destroy 148 villages around the temple. This angers Engels, who has always tried to reveal his scams for the past six years. Amman decides to help Engels expose Baba. The next day, she makes herself visible to Engels' family members, who start to like her. They soon decide to take down Baba together. Once, Engels goes to a meeting with Baba but sees his father as a follower of Baba who lied to his family that he fled him. He narrates the story to his mother. Engels' mother and sisters infiltrate Baba's group posing as Baba followers and start taking videos of him behaving badly in front of the other members without him noticing. Engels gets a job at Star Vijay and does a daily show with Baba, in which people phone him and look for solutions to their issues. During the first episode, a man phones Baba to convince his father to take his kidney at the hospital since the man married a girl of another religion and as a result, does not want his kidney. Baba then tells the father that he has done the right thing in not accepting his kidney, thus proving that he is a bigot. Later on, Engels proves to the public that Baba's Panchavanam project is against the laws and that Baba does not even know a line of the Bhagavad Gita. The next day, Engels reveals even more dark truths about Baba. Baba then challenges Engels to answer three questions at the groundbreaking ceremony of Panchavanam and if he answers those questions, he will not launch Panchavanam. After the episode's filming, Baba learns of Engels' family's plans to stop him. Engels immediately tells the others to escape Baba's class. But during the escape, their car runs out of fuel and they are caught by Baba's henchmen. Engels calls for Amman and she kills the henchmen using her powers, allowing the family to reach Panchavanam's groundbreaking ceremony in time. There, Baba reveals that the extraordinary events that made the Mookuthi Amman temple famous were all staged by Engels. When asked why he staged the events, Amman makes herself visible to everyone and arrives on the stage. She tells everyone that there is no need for men like Baba to protect God and everyone should pray to God out of faith and not fear, after which she disappears into dust. After her speech, Baba becomes a public enemy. The next day, Amman spots Engels travelling in a bike and asks him for his final wish before heading back to her abode. He replies that he is grateful for what he has. In a voiceover, Engels informs viewers to not be greedy when wishing to God.

Asif does not believe in ghosts. He lives with his wife Rashmi and his late brother's son Shaan. They're invited to Rashmi's parents' Ratna and Sachin's house for their silver jubilee. When all three steps he mentioned happen, it confirms that there is a spirit in the house. Asif makes a lemongrass tea with the same plant where the blood was washed. When he drinks it, the ghost possesses him, and he begins to act effeminate. The family confronts him and it is revealed that there are actually three ghosts who have possessed him: a violent transgender woman, a man, and a mentally disabled boy. Asif's family hires an exorcist who drives the spirit out of his body; the ghost of the woman, trapped, reveals her story. Laxman Sharma alias Laxmii is a transgender woman who was disowned by her parents. She is offered shelter by a man named Abdul Chacha, who has an intellectually disabled son. Regretting that she could not become a doctor, she adopts another transgender girl named Geeta and works hard to support her financially. When Geeta leaves to study medicine abroad, Laxmii buys a plot of land intended to construct a hospital for the poor. Her property is unlawfully taken by the crooked MLA Girja. Laxmii angrily confronts Girja, who kills her, Abdul Chacha, and his son. Before she dies, she vows to kill Girja, his wife, and his henchmen. The bodies are buried in Laxmii's own ground. After hearing her story, Asif is touched. Risking danger, Laxmii possesses Asif once more. As Laxmii, he confronts Girja and gruesomely disposes of his henchmen. Girja seeks refuge in a Goddess Laxmi's temple, which Laxmii cannot enter. Asif forcibly makes Girja come out and Laxmii kills him, getting her vengeance. A few months later, Asif has constructed the hospital for Geeta as per Laxmii's wishes. He also unites with Rashmi and her
