It tells the adventure story of four strange youths forming a group of "robbers".

Xiao Xue and her daughter Nana have never been separated before. When Nana goes missing, Xiao Xue commissions Yang Guang's pet recovery service for help in finding her daughter. Yang Guang who carries emotional scars from her childhood agrees to help after being moved by Xiao Xue and learns that Nana is a 5-year-old Bengal tiger. In the process of rescuing Nana, Yang Guang and Xiao Xue come to heal each other's wounds.

In the last years of the Tang Dynasty (late 9th to early 10th century), a military governor and warlord named Zhu Wen is out in the countryside when he happens to come across a boy who has been raised by wolves.

The warlord decides to take the boy in, adopt him, and name him Zhu You Wen. Zhu Wen then proceeds to launch an (ultimately successful) coup, usurping the Tang monarch and installing himself as the first Emperor of the Later Liang Dynasty (907-923). The new Emperor names Zhu You Wen as a royal prince.

At court, Zhu You Wen forms a bond with a woman named Ma Zhai Xing, the daughter of a government official.

Despite his lofty status at court, Zhu You Wen is motivated by a strong sense of justice that was instilled in him during his years of living in the wild. He and Ma Zhai Xing begin to form a romantic bond. And with her support, he plans to temper his adoptive father’s unpopular and overly strict reforms – and battles to foil a series of dastardly plans hatched by his scheming foster brothers.

Gu Cheng Ze is the CEO of the Gu Mall Corporation. His adopted family has tasked him with the job of grooming their biological son, Gu Jin Yu, to take over the reigns of the family corporation. The family also wants Cheng Ze to separate Jin Yu from his ex-girlfriend, fashion designer Li Yan Shu, who works for the company. Will Cheng Ze use this opportunity to win over the heart of Yan Shu for himself instead?

He decides to hire her aboard to motivate Gu Jin Yu, who still harbors feelings for Li Yan Shu. The plan worked when Gu Jin Yu decides to join the company and pursue her. When Mrs. Gu finds out about Gu Jin Yu's feelings for Li Yan Shu, she was livid and tells Gu Cheng Ze to separate the both of them. This creates an opportunity for Gu Cheng Ze and Li Yan Shu to get closer to each other, and they fell in love. With the help of Li Yan Shu, Gu Cheng Ze overcomes many difficult situations. Gu Jin Yu, after undergoing life-changing experiences, also matures and successfully took over his company.

One night, when Zhang Xiao Fan was eleven years old, everyone in his village was killed, leaving only his childhood friend Lin Jin Yu and a villager Uncle Wang survived. They were later adopted by the Qing Yun faction, the leader of the righteous and good. Lu Xue Qi is from the same faction as Zhang Xiao Fan, the Qing Yun. She is said to be a “fairy from nine skies” for her beauty that can enchant the entire country. Bi Yao is the daughter of the arch lord of Gui Wang faction. Very energetic and arrogant, she loves Zhang Xiao Fan.

Sui Tang Yanyi begins in the 580s with the conquest of the Chen dynasty (557-589) by the Sui dynasty under Emperor Wen, and concludes with the return of the Tang dynasty's Emperor Xuanzong to the capital Chang'an in 758 near the end of the An Lushan Rebellion (755-763).

The plot is made up of three main story lines.

The first, with Emperor Yang of Sui and his concubine Zhu Gui'er (朱貴兒) as the central characters, covers the events in the political arena and inner palace in the final years of the Sui dynasty.

The second story line narrates a turbulent period known as the transition from Sui to Tang, when heroes such as Qin Shubao,Shan Xiongxin (單雄信), Cheng Yaojin (程咬金) and Xu Maogong rise up to overthrow the Sui dynasty, followed by stories of how Li Shimin (the future Emperor Taizong of Tang) defeated his rivals and eventually solidified the Tang dynasty's sovereignty over China.

The last story line tells of the romance between Emperor Xuanzong of Tang and Consort Yang, and the events of the An Lushan Rebellion.
