Minami Ayako is a 33-year-old single, unsuccessful novelist who is struggling to find herself a lifelong partner. One day, Yamada, a scumbag she had dated in the past, appears before her as a ghost. He tells her he cannot reincarnate unless he fulfils a certain "promise". Just then, Ayako is mocked by another popular writer, who is a colleague of hers, that still being unmarried at this age means she must be a failure for having nobody who loves her. Due to this, Ayako decides to take marriage hunting seriously, and Yamada joins forces alongside her in order to support her in her quest to find a marriage partner.

Having overcome the obstacles that stood between them in high school, Kazunari Hira and Sou Kiyoi have spent the past few years in relative bliss. The story begins when three boys living in a rural town learn about the news that their classmates who transferred to junior high school will appear in a love reality show.
