Kuroba Miko is a mystery writer. Her books are popular and she has written bestsellers since she made her debut, but she is unable to write anymore. She currently works as a commentator for TV show. Morino Toru is a detective. Due to an incident, his arrest rate has plummeted and he is unable to solve cases anymore. Kuroba Miko and Morino Toru both suffer from the yips and they happen to meet at a sauna facility. They become good friends and solve cases together.

The "first penguin" is the courageous first penguin that dives into the sea filled with enemies. Iwasaki Nodoka is a young single mother with no money, no house, and no work. Shiro has died temporarily but is told by a mysterious person called "Kanrinin" that he can do a "homestay" i.e. his soul to reside in another dead person's body so as to find the reason for the latter's death. However, Shiro has to do this within 100 days or else his true form will be exposed and he will die for real. As such, Shiro enters the body of another dead high school student Kobayashi Shin and tries to investigate his death with Shin's childhood friend Fujieda Akira and his senior Takasaka Mizuki who Shin was in love with.

Keita Izumi and his friends Jun Tanabe (Kenichi Matsuyama) and Rookie Police Officer Shinichiro Moriya are suspicious about him. One night, Keita Izumi's daughter goes missing. Due to that, Keita Izumi, Jun Tanabe and Shinichiro Moriya happen to kill Mutsuo Komisaka. They decide to hide Mutsuo Komisaka’s murder to protect the future of the island and their families. It turns out Mutsuo Komisaka was a psycho killer. Police officers come to Shishikari Island to catch Mutsuo Komisaka.

Shibusawa Eiichi was born in 1840 to a farmer’s family. He grew up helping his family with work, which was to manufacture and sell indigo production and also silk farming. He left his hometown at the age of 23 and began working for the government. He later traveled to Paris and learned about banking. Upon his return to Japan, he helped build up the first modern bank in Japan. He eventually became a founder or supporter to about 500 companies and was involved with about 600 public services, including education for women.

Kato (Watanabe Daichi), a scriptwriter, is in love with Miho (Nao)—but he can never manage to muster up enough courage to make the relationship anything more than a platonic friendship. Seemingly oblivious to Kato's feelings for her, Miho is always calling him up and spilling her guts about her own love problems. She's in love with someone else, it turns out, but Kato swallows his pride—hearing about it all is almost too much to bear, but he wants to be with Miho as much as he can. In the meantime, the script he's working on for a TV drama mirrors a lot of his relationship with Miho. One day, Kato's friends tell him that his views on love are all mistaken, that he shouldn't delude himself into thinking that his dead-end crush on Miho will go anywhere. Emboldened and motivated, Kato finally decides to tell Miho exactly how he feels.

The Mobile Investigative Unit (known as "MIU") of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department attempts to solve cases within 24 hours.

Detective Shima Kazumi is selected as a new member of MIU. He is intelligent, with excellent observation and communication skills. Yet, he does not trust other people. He is unable to find a partner in MIU and is ordered to partner with Police Officer Ibuki Ai, who works at a police substation. Ibuki applied for MIU, but he failed. He is in excellent physical condition, but he lacks knowledge and experience as a detective. Shima learns about Ibuki's background and he becomes more nervous. Finally, Shima has his first meeting with Ibuki.

Arimura Kasumi suddenly gets a break from filming and returns to her hometown for the first time in a long while. Her mother Yumiko comes to the train station to pick her up and they head for the family home. She is idly chatting with her mother at home when a male stranger comes to visit. His name is Ueshima Makoto. He puts his hands together in front of Kasumi’s father’s tablet. Then her mother asks him to repair a bicycle. At Yumiko’s invitation, the three of them have dinner together.

Mio is 20-years-old. Her grandmother, who raised her instead of her late parents, is hospitalized. Mio leaves her hometown and goes to Tokyo to find a new job. She has a hard time adapting to life in Tokyo. Mio takes a job at a public bathhouse in an old shopping district. While working at the bathhouse, she interacts with the people in the area and begins to enjoy her time in Tokyo. Mio hears that the shopping district will be demolished.

Takahata Isao’s animated artistry in Only Yesterday (1991) comes to life in Hakota Yuko’s delicate story of a woman’s mnemonic journey. Trapped in her anemic career and love relationship, a 30-year-old TV commercial director returns to her countryside home in the company of a free-spirited friend. In a bittersweet reunion with an alienated family, her childhood memories of freedom and yearnings creep in the dreamlike blue hour, transcending into a lyricism of self-realization – at once whimsical, agonizing and yet hopeful.

Even though she works as a freelance writer, her parents treats her as a freeter. She meets her friends from her high school days. Using her courage, she contacts Shiina-kun who was the top player on their high school soccer team. She admired since high school.

Meanwhile, I admire life in Tokyo and is afraid of life in Tokyo. She still lives in her hometown. She can't forget her ex-boyfriend Shiina-kun. After she broke up with Shiina-kun, she hangs out with a man who she does not like. She is obsessed with memories of her happy moments with Shiina-kun.

She wants to have a steady job, unlike her father. Her job is to support people who move to Noto.
