Against the backdrop of three important historical events before the founding of New China, The Eve follows Lin Xi, Su Nan and other passionate youths who join the revolution and devote themselves to serving their country.

The story is set in the three historical stages of the Shanghai Concession in 1941, the Battle of Jinzhou in 1948 and the liberation of Shanghai in 1949. Gang member Lin Xi and progressive female student Su Nan represent the unsung heroes of their time. It depicts the secret battles and hidden dangers during the Anti-Japanese War of Resistance and the difficult path revolutionary workers have taken for the sake of their ideals.

Yang Hua and Miao Wei form a happily married couple living in Wuhai, a small city surrounded with astonishing desert scenery in Inner Mongolia. Yet, the husband, Yang Hua, often feels stressed over the financial differences between his and his wife’s families. He partners with his friend Luo Yu in commercial lending, but unfortunately the business fails and he becomes bogged down in debts. One day, Yang Hua's family, friends, debts collectors, and debtors come one after another, depriving him of his last bit of dignity.

The drama takes place in republican era China in Hengshan Hospital, centered primarily on the conflict between the Communist Party and the KMT in 1930s Shanghai.

Ma Tian Ming is a faithless, greedy, and selfish man who makes his living by cheating and lying. A coincidental accident drags Ma Tian Ming into a case in which he becomes the suspect. Trying to escape, he impersonated the chief doctor of Hengshan Hospital, Cai Li Kun. However, Ma Tian Ming soon found out that Cai Li Kun is a member of the underground Communist Party.
