Kwon Hyuk Joon's grandfather, the head of the traditional Kwon family agrees to an arranged marriage between his grandson, Hyuk Joon, and Yoon Jung Sook when Yoon Jung Sook is born. Eventually, the two families lose contact with each other, because soon after the contract is signed, Jung Sook's family encounters financial issues and is forced to run away.

18 years later, Jung Sook has grown up to be a rebellious and strong-willed girl who just wants to live her life as she sees fit. Chang Shik is a lazy freeloader who frequently visits nearby grocery stores for free food samples and leeches off of his older brother. Mi Young lives in the same neighbourhood and dreams of becoming an actress. She has failed all of her auditions and she supports herself by working at her mother's video rental store.

One day, Chang Shik and Mi Young literally bump into each other. Chang Shik drops his coins and, after picking them up, notices that he is 10 cents short. Chang Shik demands ten cents from Mi Young, but she refuses. The two become enemies. They then witness a hit and run incident involving an elderly man named Hwang. The next day, Chang Shik and Mi Young both notice a sign offering a 5-million-won award for an eyewitness to the hit and run incident! They get a lot more than they bargained for.

In the future, technology has gotten so advanced that cyborgs have been created with their own individual specializations and consciousness. They can feel, love, and hate…but they’re also susceptible to expiration. Refusing to die off and be recycled, a band of combat cyborgs launch an attack against Neucom genetics in an attempt to prolong their lives and destroy all who get in the way. In the middle of it all are “R” and “Noma”, two soldiers trained to battle against this type of renegade cyborg. But all is not what it seems, as there’s something R is hiding, and some kind of conspiracy brewing behind the curtains.

But when she learns that Su Heon is being transferred to the United States, she must choose between making a go of her career as a restaurateur, or starting a new life overseas.

Ju No-myeong (Choi) is very happy in his work as a baker. He is content with his simple life but his happiness is shattered when his wife reveals that she is anything but content. She lets her feelings be known through pouting, sighing, and long silences. In fact, the only time she seems to smile is when a certain customer, Mu-seok, enters the shop. This does not go unnoticed by Mu-seok's wife who confronts No-myeong. However, their confrontational relationship soon sweetens when they learn that they share a mutual passion for pastry...

Director Jang Sun Woo might be best known for provocative, controversial films, such as Lies, A Petal, and To You From Me, but he has a quiet side as well. Winner of the Alfred-Bauer Prize at the 1994 Berlin Film Festival, HwaOmKyung (a.k.a. Passage to Buddha), one of Jang's best works, is a quiet and evocatively beautiful meditation on life. Based on former monk and political activist Go Eun's novel, HwaOmKyung is one of the best Buddhist-themed films Korea has produced. Oh Tae Kyung (Old Boy) gives a stunning performance as Seon Jae, a young boy who spends his life on the road in search of his mother. A modern unfolding of the Avatamsaka sutra, his spiritual odyssey leads him to telling encounters with strange people and, eventually, the essence of Buddhism.
