Unlike his elite career bureaucrat colleagues, Kinshiro doesn't dress or act like a stereotypical Chief Police. Morita Sae (Takimoto Miori) lives in the town of Futaba in Fukushima Prefecture. One day, when she visits Spa Resort Hawaiians with her family and their pet dog, Choco, she sees girls doing the hula dance and gets completely engrossed. Time passes. Sae joins Spa Resort Hawaiians. She fulfils her dream to become a hula girl and enjoys her days to the fullest. But on 11 March 2011 at 2.46 p.m. when she is taking a break back stage after the end of a show, the Great East Japan Earthquake hits. Her peaceful, regular life undergoes a sudden change. Transportation and telecommunications are disrupted due to the earthquake. At the hotel, the manager Haseda Takeshi (Ihara Tsuyoshi) issues instructions to staff to take care of guest needs as much as possible. Sae and fellow dancers, Takezawa Kasumi (Haru) and Shimano Hikari (Sasamoto Rena), wait for their families to contact them. She focuses on her family and Choco. At the Moritas at that moment, her father Zenko (Taguchi Hiromasa), mother Ayano (Nakahara Kannan) and elder sister Ami (Sato Megumi) are all safe, but a temporary evacuation warning has been issued because of a second earthquake alert. Sae finally gets hold of her family. The next morning, she rushes over to the evacuation centre where they are waiting. However, Choco is not there. Sae dissolves into tears at the memories of Choco. She had always had her family and Choco by her side. It was Choco that cheered her up each time she came back home after she joined Spa Resort Hawaiians and got yelled at by the instructor, Yoshimoto Minako (Kikuchi Momoko), for not being able to dance to her satisfaction, and whenever she had difficult moments. Forced into harsh circumstances because of the earthquake, Sae and the hula girl members grow depressed. But they also believe in resuming their dance and begin to practice with Minako’s encouragement. Meanwhile, taking Hikari’s suggestion, they pay visits to evacuation centres as well as start the Hula Girls National Kizuna Caravan to hold free performances nationwide to cheer up and bring smiles throughout Japan with the hula dance. The hula girls including Sae transform their sorrow and pain into smiles for the sake of Fukushima’s rehabilitation and Spa Resort Hawaiians’ reopening. Like the hula girls 46 years ago, they head to various parts of the country. However, adversity beyond their imagination awaits them.

Miko (Miori Takimoto) is a 20-year-old girl. She is pure, but prone to make mistakes. His father is a famous conductor. Ren is a perfectionist and musical genius. He is very clear about what he likes and doesn't like. At first, Ren is against Mio becoming a member of A.N.JELL. Shu Fujishiro (Taisuke Fujigaya) ) is a 23-year-old guitarist. He is soft and generous. His personality is the opposite of Ren Katsuragi. He is also as popular as Ren Katsuragi. He raises herbs and likes to drink herbal tea during breaks. He is the first one to realize that Mio is different. Yuki Hongo (Hikaru Yaotome) is 21 years old. He is the drummer for A.N.JELL. Yuki likes hanging around people and is bright. He also makes the mood around the band bright. In real life he is like a boy, but on stage he shows a tougher side. His tough persona makes people crazy about him. Yuki totally trusts Ren and Shu, so he doesn't like Mio, because he thinks Mio makes Ren nervous.

Onizuka who conducts career counselling for the students with assistant form teacher Fuyutsuki Azusa (Takimoto Miori), questions their mentality of aiming for a good university in order to get into a good company. One day, a heated exchange breaks out between the students who have divided into the job-hunters and the exam takers. Azusa breaks it up but gets told by the students, “After all a teacher goes to a suitable university and ends up in the secure teaching profession.” This hits the mark and there is nothing that she can say in return. Two days before the national university entrance examination, a workshop with alumni who were accepted into elite universities is held at Meishu Academy. While watching over the students, Onizuka gets up on the stage and exhorts them that their own worth will not be determined by the name of the university, but by a life lived without regrets. However, he gets criticised by them. On the other hand, several of the students’ parents are gathered at Kuse Toshiaki’s (Hasegawa Tomoharu) place. Kuse proclaims himself an “enrolment consultant” who gets students in through the back door in what is described as “special priority admission”. The parents are worried about the future of their children. On the day before the exam, Onizuka asks the academy’s principal Sakurai Ryoko (Kuroki Hitomi) if it is that important to look at reality. She says it is important but reveals that what is most important is the conviction to pursue it. This is what Onizuka taught her. Hearing this, Onizuka makes some decision...

Seeing Onizuka’s unprecedented but visceral, powerful response to problem solving, the school’s president and principal, Sakurai Yoshiko, overrides resistance from her vice principal Uchiyamada Hiroshi and makes Onizuka a teacher. Onizuka goes on to tackle many issues as the teacher in charge of the most problematic class, Class 2-4.

Eisuke Yamate (Osamu Mukai) is busy preparing dishes with two other men for the opening of his French restaurant "Le Petit Chou." Chie Okusu (Miori Takimoto) is a college student who dreams of meeting her perfect match and having dinner with him at the French restaurant like "Le Petit Chou" for her birthday. On the day of Chie's birthday, she goes to "Le Petit Chou" with her female friend. When they arrive, they are surprised to find that the restaurant looks completely different from what they saw in the magazine. Furthermore, the name of the restaurant has been changed to "Gasterea."

Chie and her friend then notice a "Le Petit Chou" flyer nearby, which points passersby to another location. They go towards the direction that the flyer points and soon notice a man, Eisuke Yamate, hanging the "Le Petit Chou" flyers along other buildings. They decide to follow Eisuke Yamate and he eventually goes inside a warehouse. When Eisuke comes out, he brings out an electric guitar and proceeds to smash it into the ground. Eisuke then notices Chie and her friend and tells them that "Le Petit Chou" will have its opening in the evening. Chie and her friend then realize that the warehouse they are standing in front is "Le Petit Chou."

3 months before...

Eisuke Yamate is a member of rock group "Rock Head," which he formed with friends 15 years ago. His mother is a chef who specializes in French cuisine. Eisuke was also born with a natural talent for cooking and until the age of 13, dreamed of becoming a French chef. Eisuke even learned to speak French and practiced cooking different dishes. At the age of 13, Eisuke heard rock music for the first time and felt an immediate connection with the music. Soon afterwards, Eisuke dreamed of becoming of a rock star, while forgetting about his culinary dreams. By the age of 29, Eisuke's band "Rock Head" still hasn't achieved very much success. The band's lead singer then quits the group. The other two members of "Rock Head" start talking about pursuing other lines of work. The group attempts to make a pact that if they are still not recognized by the age of 30 they will quit for good. Even before that pact can go into place, the band decides to breakup that day.

Later that same evening, Eisuke goes to his mother's French restaurant "Le Petit Chou." A man named Tokio Aso (Goro Inagaki) tells Eisuke's mom that he could renovate the restaurant to make her more money, but Eisuke's mom turns his offer down. When Eisuke arrives, he tells his mother that he now wants to work as an assistant chef at her restaurant. Eisuke's mother encourages him to do what will make him happy. While they are having their discussion, Eisuke's mother suddenly collapses and dies. After his mother's funeral, Eisuke tells his father that he will work at "Le Petit Chou" as its chef. His father informs Eisuke that he already sold the restaurant to Tokio Aso after he promised to keep the restaurant exactly like it is. When Eisuke and his father walk over to "La Petit Chou" they start to hear loud sounds coming from the direction of the restaurant. They run over to the restaurant and discover that is being demolished. Eisuke and his father confronts Tokio Aso about his promise, but Tokio Aso just ignores them. Eisuke then decides to open a restaurant at a warehouse with the same name as his mom's place.

Eisuke brings over the two former members of his band "Rock Head" and they prepare for the grand opening of "La Petit Chou," which will have its opening on the same day as rival French restaurant "Gasterea.

Akari's birth mother is originally from Osaka. She moves to Osaka to live with her grandmother to learn more about her mother. She learns that her grandmother closed the okonomiyaki (a Japanese savory pancake) restaurant after Akari's teenage mother had ran away. Akari then re-opens the okonomiyaki restaurant and tries to start the business on her own.
