Set in Thailand in the 1960s, Chinatown centers around the trials and tribulations of the local Chinese people living in Bangkok.

It tells a story about understanding the meaning of life through long-distance running as it follows several athletes that are part of a running club.

Online media editor Ho Ka Yan is ordered to approach the athletics club to find some dirt on them. It's there that she becomes acquainted with running coach Yuen Lik. Due to past regrets, Yuen Lik avoids forming personal relationships with others but gradually grows closer to Ho Ka Yan because of their interactions. Kwok Wong Po's daughter Kwok Pui Yee has taken the initiative to join the club for her own reasons while her dad comes to sponsor the club. Yuen Lik's good friend Lai Shun Fan has entrusted his son to Yuen Lik. It is also revealed that Shun Fan and Ka Yan have a past. At a time when Shun Fan is on the verge of giving up due to his illness, Yuen Lik becomes determined to help his friend get back on his feet. At the same time, Yuen Lik reexamines his life as he decides to step onto the running track once more.

Sui Yee moves into her aunt Lam Ah Lui's home during her divorce, she soon finds out that her ex-husband's lover also lives in the same building as her aunt. Since Tak Sze visits the building frequently Sui Yee thinks both him and her ex-husband's lover are in cohorts together to try to gain her property from her divorce. Mo Sui Yee gets a job at Au Yeung Ai's law office, Tak Sze also visits the law office frequently because he is best friends with Yeung Ai. Through her boss and new job, Sui Yee learns that Tak Sze is truly a nice guy who works hard at his job.

Ko Lap Yan, the Senior Psychiatrist of Yan Wo Hospital, is a competent and kind-hearted doctor who specializes in severe schizophrenia and even minor mental illnesses. Yan cures his patients not only by medication but also by psychological analysis. He diagnoses the cause with reference to the symptoms. The plot is interesting, intricate and extraordinary.

The psychiatrist Lin Chi Sum and the nurse Li Ying Chun are both good friends of Yan. Sum is keen on helping people. He has cured a patient suffering from a binge eating disorder Suen Ka Pik. They have overcome a lot of difficulties and become a couple. Yan is a divorced single father with a daughter.

After the failed marriage, he did not long for love affairs until he chanced upon an Inspector of the Serious Crime Unit, Mok Man Yee. They have gradually developed their relationship through a business contact. However, in order to avoid the recurrence of genetic and mental diseases, Yee detaches her feeling from Yan.
