Themis is known as the goddess of law and order in Greek mythology. This story takes place at a law school where students aspire to become judges, prosecutors, and lawyers. Hiiragi Shizuku, who is both a judge and a law teacher, is confronted with the reality of the law school, where the teachers are only interested in teaching students how to pass the bar exam. With her belief that "one cannot become a good lawyer if you do not know people", Shizuku decides to create a new trend in the law school by teaching the students how to learn more about "people", which is something that cannot be learned from textbooks.

Natsuha Mai is a 17-year-old high school student. She begins to work part-time, during her summer vacation, at her uncle's batting cage center. There, she meets a mysterious man named Ito Tomohiro. He is a former professional baseball player and he claims that he can discern a person's worries by looking at their batting swing. Ito Tomohiro comes to the batting center every night that Natsuha Mai works and watches female customers take batting practice. He tries to solve their worries by using baseball theory.

Maezaki Family Court is located in a suburban city about an hour away from Tokyo by shinkansen. A newly appointed judge arrives at the court. This man is Kuwata Yoshio, the rumoured oddball who snubbed career advancement after turning down a transfer to Tokyo due to his attachment to the family court. On the day that Kuwata takes up his new post, he shows up carrying a huge plant on his back. Higuchi Hinako, a legal apprentice who wants to become a lawyer, and the probation officers are astounded. Kuwata says he happened to pass by a garden where trees were being felled and he decided to take this plant because he felt sorry for it. A gathering of the top brass of the prefectural police headquarters, dubbed “Entaku Kaigi” or roundtable conference, is held in a special private room at Tamayoshien, the most exclusive Chinese restaurant in W Prefecture. One woman is summoned to this tremendously powerful roundtable, which is the highest decision-making body. She is an inspector called Matsunaga Nahoko. Nahoko pushes herself every day with the intention of becoming a member of this roundtable in order to pave the way for female police officers in the prefectural police which remains chauvinistic and old-fashioned. Her job is a position that can be called “police among the police” and she exposes mistakes and the truth about cases to clean up issues before they become detrimental to the prefectural police. She holds her own with female police officers in the various police precincts, making full use of her powers of observation and insight. However, none of them are easy women. Even so, Nahoko is broad-minded enough to be tolerant with an eye toward joining the Entaku Kaigi. But each woman seems to have some sort of secret…

Kakei Shiro is a 45 year old lawyer who works at a small law firm. He is a good cook and a meticulous and thrifty person who keeps the monthly food budget to 25,000 yen. Shiro’s daily routine is to leave work on time and head to a discount supermarket nearby. His partner Yabuki Kenji is the affable hairdresser in his 40s. The two of them share a two-bedroom apartment and the finer points of two men living together comes up at the dining table every day. Although the two of them have been in a relationship for three years and Shiro's parents know he is gay, Shiro never shares the fact that he is gay or Kenji is his partner to anyone.

Kakei Shiro is a 45-year-old attorney who works for a small law firm and lives with his lover, Yabuki Kenji, a hairdresser.

Kakei Shiro's regular routine is that after work, he buys groceries at a mart, which has discounted prices and does not go over a certain budget. Afterwards, he goes home and makes dinner, which usually includes rice, soup and three side dishes. When dinner is about ready, Yabuki Kenji comes home from work. While they eat, the two men talk about pretty much everything.

One day, when Kakei Shiro and Yabuki Kenji are out in public, Kenji's customer comes up to them and asks, "Is he your boyfriend who is a lawyer?" Kakei Shiro is embarrassed. Unlike Kenji, who is open about his sexual orientation, Shiro does not tell people at his law firm that he is gay.

The series is full of love, friendship, humor, everyday worries and the crumbs of life. Everything in the background is accompanied by delicious Japanese dishes and recipes for their preparation.

Actor Hasegawa Hiroki plays the manager of a major group that operates schools, while Kato Ai plays his wife and the sister of Yuka.

Upon getting thrown out of his girlfriend Fujiko's apartment, Hiromi (Sorimachi) decides to head for the ocean. En route, he crosses paths with Kaito (Takenouchi), an elite employee of a large multinational trading company in Tokyo who is running away from his problems at work after losing a key client. The two stumble into a quiet B&B on the beach run by the aging surfer Masaru and his high-school-aged granddaughter Makoto. Hiromi immediately applies to work there for the summer, and Kaito is forced to join him after he loses his wallet. The two share a room, with Hiromi trying to make friends, and Kaito at first resisting, unimpressed by Hiromi's devil-may-care attitude. Slowly over the ensuing episodes, Kaito becomes more and more at home in this sleepy rural town, and begins to wonder if he should give up his pursuit of success in the big city, and try to relax, and enjoy himself more. When he returns to Tokyo to finish his work, Hiromi and Makoto come to lure him back, but when he returns to the B&B, his boss and girlfriend Sakura likewise come looking for him.
