The 41st NHK Taiga Drama is Toshiie to Matsu. During the turbulent Warring States Era, one man's life and career intertwined with the three great generals of Japanese history-Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu. With political savvy and the support of his fiercely loyal wife, Maeda Toshiie rose to second in power in the shogunate and built up a fiefdom that encompassed Echizen, Noto and Kaga.

The Kashiwagi family's life story continues. Koume finally gets into an university, while Masaya decides to travel round the world to save as many people as he can with his skills. Fumiya, on the other hand, breaks through his inferior feelings and is dating a blind penpal girlfriend. Meanwhile, Kazuya builds a strong relationship with his colleague, Miki, who then moves in with the Kashiwagi family after her mother's death, adding to the strength of the family together with the other new tenant, Shinjou. However, the love triangle between Tatsuya, Masaya and Koyuki is put to the test when one of them must battle a terminal illness.

A car accident killed a couple, orphaning their six children. At that time, the eldest child, Tatsuya, was only 18 and had to attend marathon training. Lacking the confidence to take good care of his siblings, he separately relocated them to the homes of their relatives and adopters. However, after seven years and a career-ending injury, Tatsuya decides to reunite his brothers and sisters to live together under one roof. To his disappointment, he is met with resentment and discord.

The story revolves around Sakuraba Yuichiro (Nagase Tomoya) who is a famous singer in Japan. Voted as the sexiest man in Japan, little that his fans know that apart from his cool style and glamourous life, Yuichiro is actually an eccentric, a happy go lucky kind of person. This drama is about an artist who are living two kind of personality; cool, extremely famous and handsome singer, while on the other hand, he is just an eccentric, happy go lucky guy with a pair of spectacles and a track suit as his main clothes (which is the total opposite of the cool personality). He falls in love with Ishihara Minami (Sakai Noriko) and moves to live together with her family members after their marriage. While trying his best to fit into his new environment, he has to bear with all the family problems and also problems arising from keeping his marriage as a secret from his fans as well as being scared of being exposed by the family members.
