Set during the Donghak Peasant Revolution which took place from 1894-1895. Two half-brothers fight on opposite sides of this rebellion.

Baek Yi Kang is the first son of an important family. His father is wealthy and he is notorious as a local government officer. But, Yi Kang’s mother is from the the lowest class. Due to his mother's low social class, people look down on Baek Yi Kang.

Song Ja In is the only daughter for the head of a large peddlers group. She is the owner of Jeonjoo Yeokak, which sells merchandise and is also an inn. She has courage, stays calm under pressure and has charisma. Song Ja In dreams of becoming the best merchant in Joseon.

Baek Yi Hyun is Yi Kang’s younger half-brother. He is smart, handsome and polite. Unlike Yi Kang, Baek Yi Hyun was not born out of wedlock. Yi Hyun has everything and he treats his half-brother politely.

This is a family drama which tell the story of a family of five women who lost their property and became separated families after the war.

With an underlying theme of hope in a stressful, disconnected world, this drama centers around filial piety, family bonds and people of good character. This drama reveals the true meaning of marriage and love by depicting the current dating scene and social attitudes while contrasting the personalities amongst young people looking for a husband based on the man's social and wealth status instead of true love. There are good times and also bad times in life, but by having your loved ones by your side will make every day feel like a pleasant springtime.

Shin Se Kyung and Shin Shin Ae (Seo Shin Ae) are a pair of sisters who came to work as maids in Foodstuff company President Lee Sun Jae's house after their debt-ridden father Shin Dal Ho (Jung Seok Yong) runs away leaving them to fend for themselves. Due to the sisters living their lives in the mountains, everything in the city (outside world) are both new and curious for them especially for the younger sister, Shin Ae. Living together with President Lee is his daughter Lee Hyun Kyung, son-in-law Jung Bo Suk, doctor-to-be son Lee Ji Hun, grandson Jung Jun Hyuk who is a high school student and grand-daughter Jung Hae Ri' Jun Hyuk's school deen, Kim Ja Ok, is in love with President Lee who is widowed.

On the eve of the dreaded university entrance examinations, the lives of 24 of the smartest and brightest students at one high school are on the line. Locked inside the school with no way to escape, a television monitor broadcasts a terrified Hae Yeong, the top student at the high school, locked inside an aquarium that slowly begins to fill with water. A voice from the monitor announces if the students cannot finish the exam administered within the allotted time given, Hae Yeong will die and so will everyone held captive inside the school. Thus begins the examination that will determine whether they live or die.
