Hairdresser Eri and accountant Hiroyuki are a remarried couple in their 40s. The two of them go on trips, enjoy meals, and enjoy an elegant life. She travels to her mother’s hometown of Kaga City in Ishikawa Prefecture with the diary as her guide. The lies and hard facts written in the diary by the women, lead her to true happiness.

Ryoichi Yoshimori is a university student. His girlfriend Kyoko Sawada is older than him, but he enjoys his time with her. After Ryoichi Yoshimori proposes to his girlfriend, she suddenly disappears one day. Several days later, he finally sees her again but she has no memory of him. Ryoichi Yoshimori is stunned, but he suspects her memory loss is related to the Kiokuya rumor. A person named Kiokuya is reputed to erase the memories of people. He talks to Chiaki Takaharu, who is a lawyer and attended the same university as him, about his situation. Ryoichi Yoshimori searches for the cause of Kyoko Sawada’s memory loss and gets help from childhood friend Maki Kawai and Chiaki Takaharu’s assistant.

Nanase Sakura is a 23-year-old rookie nurse. She met Doctor Kairi Tendo several years ago and fell in love with him. To meet him again, she studied hard and became a nurse. Keisuke is a genius professional shogi player. While doing an interview with a shogi magazine, Keisuke recalls his childhood. In 1972, Keisuke was an elementary school student and he lived with his father. His father was violent and did not even give Keisuke a proper meal. Makita Takahiro works in the Public Relations (PR) Department of Nagawara Seiyaku, a major pharmaceutical company in Japan. One day, on his way to work, he witness someone committing suicide by jumping onto the railway tracks, into the path of an oncoming train. A few days later, he is called into the Vice President, Anjo Takao's office, where he is told that the suicide may have something to do with one of the drugs manufactured by the company. Anjo then assigns Takahiro to work with the police on their investigations. As Nagawara Seiyaku is currently undergoing talks with a major foreign equity group on a possible merger, any bad publicity will put an end to that. The company will definitely go under then, as they are in the red due to the economic crisis. Takahiro has been told to not breathe a word about the investigations to anyone, not even his fiancee, Morita Mayumi, who is working as Anjo's secretary.

When the autopsy records the said drug to be found in the deceased's body, Anjo instructs Takahiro to approach the family, to persuade them on an out-of-court settlement, while they are writing up reports for the Ministry of Health. Torn between his obligation to the public and to the company, Takahiro approaches the company lawyer, Takafuji Tatsumi, for advice and help.

In the end, will Takahiro ignore his conscience in order to protect the company's profit?

15 years have passed since Haibara Tatsuyuki (Nakai Masahiro) started working for the finance company, Teikoku Financing. The company president, Kaneko Takatoshi, passed away five years earlier and now Takayama Kazuo (Watabiki Katsuhiko) is in charge of Teikoku Financing. Haibara goes around with his senior, Kuwata Sumio (Kobayashi Kaoru), to collect debts every day. The law regarding debt collection has changed and the regulations for moneylenders have been strengthened. Many finance companies have gone bankrupt or ceased business. During this period, Teikoku Finance practically buys unsettled debts. One day, Kuwata and Haibara visit Magonote Construction’s president, Magonote Kenzo (Saito Yosuke), one of the debts bought over, in order to collect his debt. Not only the promissory note but also land mortgage which has been pledged as collateral are Teikoku Financing’s. Magonote and his daughter, Yoko (Renbutsu Misako), insist that the land cannot be handed over when pressed by the two to immediately pay back the debt by selling the land. That land is a place with memories of Magonote’s late wife and Yoko’s mother. Despite a promise to settle the debt one week later, father and daughter have no means to do so. Dotsubo Financing’s advertisement catches the attention of Yoko, and she knocks on its door. Led by company president Dotsubo Kyoichi (Yusuke Santamaria), Dotsubo Financing inspires Yoko with something backhand in order to settle the debt. Dotsubo Financing’s ploy checks Teikoku Financing’s in its course, but in the end, Yoko is pushed further to the edge. Unable to forsake Yoko who has no way out, Haibara does not even listen to the voices of those around him who tell him to stop, and works on repaying her debt.

The dream of rookie lawyer, Ayukawa Wakaba, is to be an international lawyer with a yearly income of 10 billion yen. However, the foreign law firm that had employed her, suddenly announces its withdrawal from Japan. A flustered Wakaba contacts a law firm that she had received an offer from, and ends up being employed by the firm run by Sakuragawa Shoko. Sota is with a child called Bitaro, and Bitaro is a friend who also attends the same nursery as Hinata. Hearing from Sota that caregivers have recently been screened when they come to the school, Wakaba declares to Hanamura Hitoshi, the head of the nursery, that if they are doing so, they should cross check with the list of sex offenders. A panicky Sota intervenes. Then Hanamura’s daughter Urara praises Sota as a role model for ‘ikumen’ (men who proactively and voluntarily take care of their children).
