Ai Changan and Shen Xia represent Huaqi employees along with other college students who have joined the company as interns. Their stories are connected to the Chinese automobile industry from which their livelihoods depended on.

In the mid-1980s, a group of college graduates came to an automobile factory located in the northwest to start their internship. Shen Xia who intended to study abroad witnessed the development of the 7-ton truck and decides to stay. Together with Ai Chang'an, a young technician at the factory, they begin their journey to turning the tide for the industry. The market is ruthless such that the new generation of dedicated men and women face countless difficulties. The backbone of Huaqi has almost been completely dug out by opponents.

Shen Xia and Ai Chang'an make bold choices to reform old mechanisms and develop new trucks. They eventually gain a foothold in the market to become a force that cannot be ignored. Huaqi eventually becomes one of China’s top 500 machinery companies with its products being exported overseas. The individuals who dedicated their youth to their work not only won in their careers but also found love.

After the villagers relocated, the poverty alleviation group represented by the county head and village cadres went deep into the frontlines. Because of the terrain, cars could not drive in so everyone dug up a road.

While being careful not to damage the environment, Shen Tong vigorously developed the lingzhi and tea planting industry in the area to establish his own tea factory. Subsequently, he ventured into online selling and led the villagers to shed the label of poverty.

With a name that means “happiness”, one might suspect that He Xing Fu’s life would be full of nothing but joy. Unfortunately, as is the case for so many of us, Xing Fu’s life was filled with several ups and downs that brought as many moments of sorrow as they did joy. Ultimately forced into the city to find work, Xing Fu does the best she can but the struggles of city life prove too much for this small-town woman.

Returning to her village, Xing Fu is determined to do whatever it takes to make the life she dreams of, not just for herself but for her entire village. Will the struggles she faces ultimately lead her to the happiness her name seems to have destined her for?

Medical Examiner Dr. Qin: The Mind Reader tells the story of Qin Ming, a forensic graduate student. He came to his mother's hometown, Longpan City, to investigate her mother's mysterious death. Qin Ming, who had arrived early, was accidentally involved in a murder case.

The story is set during the period of the Chinese economic reform from 1978 until 1992 and the three men who relentlessly push the boundaries amidst trying times.

Song Yunhui is highly intelligent but he has always been discriminated against due to his background. He grabs the chance to take the exams in 1978 and successfully becomes a qualified technician. However, just as he builds a foundation for his career, he also begins to lose himself in his thirst to climbs the ranks.

Completely different from Song Yunhui is his brother-in-law Lei Dongbao. Being raised in a poor family, he is the typical rough and gruff man from the rural village. During the time of economic reform, he becomes a leader that the other villagers look up to, yet his lack of education ultimately impedes his initial motivations.

Yang Xun on the other hand brings a different set of encounters. He aspires to be a self-made man as he rides the tide of change to find business opportunities, thus embarking on a road to becoming an entrepreneur.
