Kazusa Onodera is in the first 1st grade of high school. She is also a member of the literature club at her school. The literature club has a total of 5 members, with the other members being Niina Sugawara, Rika Sonezaki, Momoko Sudo and Hitoha Hongo. Oshi Hana is 78 years old. She realizes that she is different from the people of her own age. She tries to look younger than her age while surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Saionji Hajime serves the wealthy Ijuuin family. He graduated at the top of the London school for butlers. As the perfect butler, housekeeping skills and management of the mansion go without saying. Saionji has established a firm relationship of trust with Yuriko, the widow of the head of the Ijuuin family. He abides by the wishes of the inquisitive Yuriko and independently investigate difficult case. No matter how capable he is as a butler, he should be an amateur at investigating cases. However, nothing is impossible for Saionji who brilliantly figures out the mystery with his knowledge and skills.

Transport company president Akamatsu doubts that poor maintenance a trailer truck's wheel-separation accident and asks customer strategy head Sawada at manufacturer Hope Cars to investigate. Meanwhile, Izaki at Hope Bank's head branch sales division has doubts about Hope Car's business plans and embarks on an independent investigation. One day, Sayaka wakes up and a strange man is in front of her. She panics and the man introduces herself as Shohei Machida. He works as a salesman at the same company as Sayaka. He tells her that they are in a relationship and live together. Sayaka lost her memory for 3 months.

Snack bar owner and her regular patron tell 11 different stories about the worst day in the lives of people in their neighborhood of Shimokitazawa, Tokyo. One of those instances involve a Tokyo politician being kidnapped during an S&M session. ~~ 11 screenwriters contribute 11 different stories with different casts under the theme of “The worst day of their life.”

Makoto Masaki and Haruko Kogetsu are both 29 years old and single. Since they were children, they have passed each other at various places like on the beach and shrines. Yet, the two are not aware of each other at all. One day, a man appears in front of Makoto Masaki and introduces himself as God. He tells Makoto Masaki about his destined soul mate and that she works next door. When he faces Haruko Kogetsu, he tells her "I'm your destiny."

Sakisaka Kento is a lawyer with an outstanding career. He seems cool and handsome, but he is a zealous person who will confront things that are unreasonable and wrong head-on. There are times when he values the words of a single person and not a lawyer. Sakisaka is regarded as the ace of the law firm, but his only weak point is a lawyer at the same firm who also happens to be his ex-wife Natsume Yoshie. He has been raising their daughter Mizuki as a single father since their divorce. A stylish lawyer who holds her head high, Yoshie is down-to-earth and a perfectionist. These two rival lawyers often have well-reasoned legal arguments regarding the cases of their clients. However, when they wander off topic, they will call each other “papa” and “mama” the moment they lose their cool and start quarreling like a couple.

Kuraki Naotake is the top ace of the Public Safety Department. Osugi Ryota is a top-notch straight-talking detective from the MPD. Akeboshi Misa is an investigator from the Public Safety Department. Together, the 3 of them investigate on the bombing incident in Shinjuku. Naotake had specifically requested to be on the investigation team as he had lost his wife in the said incident.

Hakamada Yukio is a competent, mysterious lawyer who only handles settlement cases because of past experiences. Although his scathing words get on clients’ nerves, his primary consideration is their welfare. His philosophy that “love is something that can never be bought with money. But if a client is able to have genuine resolve, I’ll certainly get the compensation and give the push for a fresh start” is the basis for the problems that he solves one after another.

Haruki Hanyu, who worked as a prosecutor, changes sides and becomes an attorney. He opens his law office "NEXUS". In court, pursues solutions where the plaintiff and defendant can come to a mutual understanding. This differs completely from Kensuke Komikado, who believes only the winner is right. At work, Haruki Hanyu has confrontation a with Machiko Mayuzumi, but still holds personal feelings for.

Amano Aki goes with her mother Haruko to her hometown in Kitasanriku during a summer vacation. There, she meets her maternal grandmother, Natsu, for the first time. Natsu is a woman diver aka "ama", and Aki thinks that is just so cool. Aki is a second-year high-school student, and she struggles to keep up with the fast-paced life in Tokyo. Having been confined indoors most of the time, everything she sees in the rural town is exciting to her. But most of all, seeing her grandmother diving under the fierce surf along the coastline, leaves a huge impact on her. "I think I would like to be a diver too..."

The plot revolves around four ladies struggle to find happiness in the capital city of Tokyo:

Satoko: Works as a receptionist at an escort service “Heavan’s Gate.” At home, she often prays to God to find a boy that will love her.

Chihiro: Works in a low level office position. When her roommate, Toko, asks if there is a God, she replies “God would be something like a boyfriend. Buys me whatever I want and makes possible all my wishes.” She often involves herself with men who only use her for sex.

Akiyo: Works at an escort service “Heavan’s Gate” as a call girl. She saves her money in order to eventually buy a condo situated on the 5th floor or higher. Once she gets old & senile, she plans to jump out of her apartment to her death. She is infatuated with Kikuchi, an old school friend. Akiyo changes her appearance when around Kikuchi and conceals the fact that she is a call girl.

Toko: Works obsessively as an illustrator. She suffers from bulimia, a fact she conceals from her roommate, Chihiro.
