Miyazawa Masajiro owns and runs a pawn shop for generations. His first son is Miyazawa Kenji and his daughter is Miyazawa Toshi. Kenji is supposed to take over the pawn shop as the first son, but he refuses to take over the store. Masajiro is soft on his son. Meanwhile, Toshi is smart and wise. She gives advice to her father and her older brother. One day, Toshi gets sick.

Kiyo and Sumire are childhood friends from Aomori Prefecture who move to Kyoto to become maiko. During their training, Sumire is praised for her talent and diligence. Kiyo, meanwhile, has difficulty learning the basic skills and is eventually expelled. However, Kiyo's talent in cooking is discovered, and she is hired as the new cook of the maiko house. Kiyo is happy with her new role: supporting Sumire and the other maiko through her cooking.

Tabata Kaede is a university student with poor social skills. He meets Akiyoshi Hisano, who attends the same university. She seems to lack common sense and is also an idealist. She talks about ending wars and having no more bullies. Kaede & Hisano have different personalities, but they are both outsiders. Shogo Kai is a partner at a law firm in Marunouchi, Tokyo. He brings back Daiki Suzuki to his law firm from Boston. Shogo Kai then assigns Daiki Suzuki to a case. The case involves a large publishing company as they are sued by a former contract worker. The former contract worker insists her idea for a novel was stolen by the publishing company.

The story is based on the life of a japanese composer named Yuji Koseki from Fukushima in the Showa Era.

In 1909, a long-awaited baby boy was born to a family which has run a dry goods store for generations in Fukushima Prefecture. He would later become the talented composer Koyama Yuichi who wrote many famous songs. Although Yuichi was brought up as the heir of the business, he was rather dreamy and considered a child with no redeeming traits by the people around him. However, when he encountered music, it sparked joy and unleashed his gift in composing music through self-study. As a youth, Yuichi secretly put his name down for an overseas songwriting competition. This would change his destiny. He won runner-up for the song he entered for the competition. As a result, he got to know a female student who wanted to be a singer. Despite the long distance between them – Fukushima and Toyohashi – the two of them tied the knot. When they came to Tokyo, they met all sorts of people and weathered a dark period to produce a number of hit songs. However, war broke out and Yuichi had to compose wartime songs at the army’s request. It pained him that young men died in battle after singing the songs he had written. After the war, the country began to recover amid the chaos. The couple made a new era of music in an attempt to encourage the wounded through the power of music.

Rintaro works as a cameraman. He goes back to his hometown for his father's funeral. While preparing for his father's funeral, Rintaro's mother Akiko cancels the bento meal order that they were to serve at the funeral. Akiko tells Rintaro and her daughter Miyako that she will prepare the food herself. Rintaro and Miyako did not like the idea, but they can't do anything about it. When it's time to eat at the funeral, Rintaro, Miyako and other relatives are embarrassed at the table, because there isn't anything there. Akiko then tells them that cooking by herself at her husband's funeral was on his will. The first meal is then served, which is fried eggs. Rintaro realizes the fried eggs tastes just like what his father made for them.

Ibuki Hiiragi works as an art teacher. He began teaching at his current high school two years ago. He is the homeroom teacher of 3rd Grade A Class. 10 days before graduation day, Ibuki Hiiragi stands in front of his 29 students, and tells them "From now on, you are hostages."

30-year-old Shinkai Akira always smiles and she is perfect at work. She cares about those around her too much. 33-year-old Nemoto Kosei works as an accountant. He is friendly and popular among women. Nevertheless, he doesn't trust anyone and he does not fall in love easily. Akira and Kosei meet at a bar and become attracted to each other.

Rosuke Narumi (Sho Sakurai) works at a trading company and he is pretty good at his job. He dates Satoko Matsubara (Mikako Tabe). The trading company has a business relationship with a private high school experiencing some difficulties. One day, Rosuke Narumi is appointed as the principle of the private high school. Rosuke Narumi soon discovers how different the work environment is from his previous job.

So the school can run in the black, Rosuke Narumi implements cost cutting measures. School staff members including Chihiro Mashiba (Yu Aoi) oppose his plan.

Sakagami Takumi, a high school student, is assigned to his class’s Community Outreach Committee. One day, his homeroom teacher also assigns his classmates Naruse Jun, a girl who is unable to speak because of a past trauma, Tasaki Daiki, a former ace player on the baseball team, and Nitoh Natsuki, a cheerleader and straight-A student, to the Committee. Each one of them harbors feelings that they "long to shout" in their hearts. Because of their homeroom teacher's foresight, their class ends up having to perform a musical at the exchange party, but nobody in the class seems willing. But as they see Jun courageously making an effort to communicate her feelings by singing, Takumi and the other classmates who were reluctant begin to participate in a positive way.

The day of the performance arrives. Will they be able to convey their true feelings they have locked away in their hearts?

Manami is targeted by vampires on her 22nd birthday and K, who possesses tremendous power, tries to save her in a raging battle. On that day, young men and women are invited to Hotel Requiem where a huge nationwide matchmaking convention is being held by the mysterious Yamada. He lives and runs this ornately beautiful, palatial hotel with a bizarre empress and Elizabeth Báthory. Then Yamada suddenly declares to the gathered crowd that tomorrow will be the apocalypse and only the people inside this hotel will be saved.
