Number One is a heart-warming musical family comedy that follows the story of Chow Chee Beng, a middle-aged white collar manager retrenched by his company. After many failed interviews, Chee Beng unwillingly takes a job as a manager at ‘Number One’, a popular drag club. Soon, Chee Beng is roped into dressing up to join the drag queens on stage. And to everyone’s surprise, Chee Beng is a natural drag queen and his performance wows the audiences!

Continuing from Long Long Time Ago, Zhao Di takes over her family farm with the help of Ah Long after the 1969 floods. After the government started reclaiming land for development in 1977, licensed owners like Zhao Di are compensated but her brother accuses her of having an affair with Ah Long to get the money for himself. Osman does not approve his son playing in a rock band as he fears the negative influence, causing his son to run away from home. Meanwhile, Ah Hee and Rani decide to get married but their traditional parents object their marriage.

The main character, acted by Xiao Shen Yang, is a shoemaker who goes from a martial-arts newbie to the number one expert. Zhao Benshan is a bandit, superior in martial arts but who is defeated by Xiao Shen Yang. Cheng Ye plays one of Zhao Benshan's subordinates, whose successes are lacking and whose failures are abundant and who is often burdening Zhao Benshan. The other roles all revolve around Xiao Shen Yang. Kelly Lin plays an ordinary martial who thinks she's a princess and likes Xiao Shen Yang. Eric Tsang is a blind, but an expert fencer who is in charge of protecting the princess. Chen Zhipeng is the rightful emperor, as well as Kelly Lin's character's fiancee and Xiao Shen Yang's character's rival-in-love. Xiao Xiao Bin acts out little Xiao Shen Yang, and Jacky Wu is an exceptional expert who lives at the bottom of a valley.
