Hong Kong’s answer to Backdraft is a good, solid flick that seems to contain most of Johnnie To’s favorite actors and themes. Thankfully, he neglects to add montages. Lau Ching-Wan is the risk-taking boss fireman of the “ill-fated jinxes,” a notoriously unlucky squad of lifesavers. They’re known for futility and things just going wrong, i.e. failing to save lives or saving the wrong ones (like pets, for example). However, through teamwork and perseverance, they gain each other's trust and the respect of others.

A story of true love that begins with a woman's lies to become her own daughter's stepmother. Ji Eun Soo, a woman who marries into a chaebol family, is pointed out as the murderer of her husband overnight and struggles to get back the daughter she birthed in prison.

Takeko keeps a framed design of the spider lily flower on the wall of her tattoo parlor. The design was literally cut from the flesh of her father, after he was crushed to death in an earthquake. The image of the spider lily tattoo is the last cohesive memory of Takeko's traumatized brother, Ching, who is no longer able to recognize anyone, including his sister. In 2003, after a collision with a truck, a double-decker bus veered off a bridge and plummeted 35 meters into a village below, claiming 21 lives. Ten years later, sightings of a female ghost dressed in red have been reported at the site of the horrific accident. Poon, the host of the radio show "Twilight Online," discovers the identity of the ghost -- a College teacher named Lui. He decides to visit the village to conduct a paranormal investigation.
