Busan, South Korea, the present day. Legendary retired gangster Yoon Doo-hun (Song Kang-ho) dreams of opening a restaurant, and enrolls in a cooking class, where he gets to know Jo Se-bin (Shin Se-kyung), 20. Doo-hun then hears that his former boss, Man-gil, has died after being hit by a car; the gang's members need to find Man-gil's will to see whom he nominated as his successor, though most of them expect it is Doo-hun. Meanwhile, Se-bin's roommate Lee Eun-jung (Esom) has become indebted to some Haeundae moneylenders, who force Se-bin, in return, to spy on Doo-hun. Set during the Joseon Dynasty, "Chuno" revolves around the world of slave hunters (known as "Chuno Ggun") and slaves (known as "Nobi"). The slaves were sometimes born into the system of servitude and other times became slaves as a punishment for a crime. In the drama series "Chuno," a slave hunter (played by Jang Hyuk) attempts to track down one such runaway slave (playd by Oh Ji-Ho). The runaway slave became a nobi after being falsely accused of a crime he did not commit. While the slave hunter tracks down the runaway slave, he also seeks out the woman he loves (played by Lee Da-Hae).

Several years ago Kong-Sil (Kong Hyo-Jin) was involved in an accident. Since that incident, Kong-Sil is able to see and hear ghosts. She's also terrified of the ghosts that appear constantly around her. Because of this, she's unable to live a normal life. Kong-Sil lives in a rooftop room at an extended stay inn. She makes a living by doing odd jobs at the inn, including cleaning.

Meanwhile Joong-Won (So Ji-Sub) is the president of an extravagant shopping mall named Kingdom. He is also arrogant and calculative. Everything relates to him in terms of money.

One raining evening, Kong-Sil goes to room 404 to clean, but she sees another ghosts. She freaks out and runs up to her rooftop room. The ghost, who looks like an old woman, appears right next to her again. Kong-Sil then does the old woman ghost a favor and goes to her home. She hands the ghost's son a bankbook with more than 10,000 dollars in the account.

Joong-Won sits face to face with a man who owns land that he needs to build a golf course. The man tells Joong-Won that his deceased wife does not want him to sell the land. Joong-Won doesn't believe in ghosts and ignores him. He pulls out a contract which the man's children already signed. Joong-Won is able to get the man's signature.

On his way back from that meeting, Joong-Won is driven by his assistant (Choi Jung-Woo). The driver then sees a woman thumbing for a ride. Joong-Won tells his driver to ignore the woman, but a light suddenly shines on them and the car stops. At this time, Kong-Sil hops into the car and thanks them for picking her up. Kong-Sil unintentionally touches Joong-Won and feels something unusual. Later, the car pulls over at a highway rest stop. While walking back to the car, Joong-Won sees Kong-Sil talking to someone, but there isn't anyone else there. Thinking she might be crazy, Joong-Won turns around, but Kong-Sil grabs his arm. She discovers that whenever she touches him, the ghosts around her disappear.

Back at her rooftop room, Kong-Sil is terrified by the ghosts around her as usual. She thinks back to Joong-Won and how the ghosts disappeared when she touched him. Kong-Sil decides to go Kingdom shopping mall to meet Joong-Won again.

Suh Jin Young is an aviation maintenance technician. Her fiance Jae Hoon passed away in a horrible traffic accident. With nunchakus tucked in the back of his pants, he goes up to the roof after Jong Hoon.

Four guys, with nothing better to do, decide to rob a gas station. When they find out there isn't as much money as they expected, they lock up the employees and take over to make more money. They don't know how to run the gas pumps, and when the customers complain, the guys take them hostage. Everything is more or less under a chaotic kind of control until they order Chinese food and make the mistake of harassing the delivery boy. He rounds up a bunch of other delivery boys to attack the gas station. Another confrontation with a high school gang and the local mafia provokes a bigger fight. Finally, the police arrive for the final showdown.

Han Ga In plays the role of 'Kim Yoo-Na' who is a sassy girl and a doctor. Yang Dong Geun plays the role of the lazy bum 'Kang Dal-Go.'Kang Dal-Go is a middle leader of a gang who gets investigated by the police for some incident and gets kicked out of the gang.
