Yoo Se Poong’s legendary abilities as a physician are well-known in the royal palace. Nonetheless, he was expelled from the royal court when his involvement in a conspiracy against the royal family came to light. He moves and begins work in the strange, but, beautiful, Gyesu Village.
There he meets Kye Ji Han, Sorak Village’s grumpy old doctor with the heart of gold. Upon the encounter with Yoo Se Poong, Kye Ji Han is motivated to transform the young doctor into one who heals hearts.
Another resident of the village is Seo Eun Woo, who hails from a noble family and has keen observational skills and deep empathy. Now a widow, she mirrors the stories of the heartbroken. She feels wronged by her sudden marriage and is about to become an unwilling wife who stays virtuous to a deceased husband.

Jung Sun Ah is Kang Yo Han’s greatest rival and the executive director of a CSR (corporate social responsibility) foundation. With her beauty and her brains, she is closely involved with many important people, including Kang Yo Han, and has the power to shake up the nation.
Kim Ga On is an associate trial judge who shines as the one ray of hope in a dystopian world. He lost his parents when he was a child and spent a rough childhood, but he worked himself to the bone in order to get his first appointment as a judge. He has patience and endurance, but he is thrown into chaos while observing the actions of Kang Yo Han.
Yoon Soo Hyun is a police detective in a regional investigation unit who is on the hunt for Kang Yo Han’s secrets. She and Kim Ga On have been friends since childhood and grew up like siblings. Even though she is quite popular due to her easygoing personality and good looks, only Kim Ga On is oblivious to her charms.
Seo Hee Soo, a former top actress and the second daughter-in-law of the chaebol group Hyowon. As she puts in all sorts of effort after entering the new and covert world of chaebol families, Seo Hee Soo manages to keep her presence and true colors with confidence in everything she does.
Hyowon group’s first daughter-in-law Jung Seo Hyun, who is a chaebol down to her bones. Born from a traditional and powerfully wealthy family, Jung Seo Hyun was born with elegance, dignity, and intelligence. Set in Busan, South Korea during the 1970's, Lee Doo-Sam works for a group who become involved in smuggling high priced items like gold and watches. The government then implements a crackdown. Lee Doo-Sam becomes the scapegoat for his boss and serves time in prison. When he is released, Lee Doo-Sam jumps into the business of manufacturing and distributing methamphetamine. At a party, he meets lobbyist Kim Jung-A who has connections with powerful people. Kim Jung-A joins Lee Doo-Sam’s business venture. Lee Doo-Sam makes incredible profits, but he becomes restless and gets addicted to methamphetamine.
Meanwhile, Prosecutor Kim In-Goo is transferred to the Busan Prosecutors' Office. While investigating a drug case, he notices Lee Doo-Sam. He targets Lee Doo-Sam and the powerful people who took bribes from him.
Based on the Japanese Invasion, a drug king sells drugs to China and Japan and uses the money on Joseon Independence movement.
