A heartwarming story of a family, overcoming obstacles with the power of love. A family from the southern end of Korea has always been happy despite their poverty. However, a sudden accident strikes them and takes away the parents, leaving the five children alone. Without parents, they have to live through a harsh reality. The eldest, Yeong Sun, is only eleven years old, but she has to take care of her siblings and becomes a mother-figure. She soon focuses on nothing but family. However, irresistible love comes her way. Hesitant, Yeong Sun decides to give up on romance and live life as it used to be. Will she eventually regain her happiness? “The Eldest” depicts the very noble love of five siblings who have been abandoned by society, and the blossoming of a genuine romantic relationship.

Set during the reign of King Sukjong in the Joseon dynasty, the story focuses on Dong Yi, a water maid who gains the trust of Queen Inhyeon and later the favour of the king when he is moved by her prayers for the health of the Queen during the court disputes caused by Jang Hee Bin. Dong Yi becomes a concubine with the rank of sook-bin and bears a son who will later become the 21st king of Joseon, Yeongjo.
