The story is set in the late Edo period when the divorce rate was two times higher than the present.

In the feudal Japanese society, men could easily divorce their wives whereas wives had great difficulty to exercise the same act. Many women found solace at a women’s Buddhist temple in Kamakura named Tokei-ji, where, after two years of servitude, their husbands were forced to sign divorce papers. The three inns located in the area beneath the temple functioned as the front offices, with Tokei-ji accepting only women who have been approved by them first.

The year is 1841. Tokugawa Shogunate has issued sumptuary regulations as part of Tempo reforms, making the lives of common people even worse. Nakamura Shinjiro is a literary writer and doctor-in-training, residing in Edo. In light of the recent events, Shinjiro escaped to an inn at Tokei-ji temple which is run by his aunt, Kashiwaya Genbei.

Jogo is aiming for Tokei-ji in search of a divorce from her abusive husband who is exploiting her for the family business. Ogin is a former courtesan who has abandoned the love of her life, a wealthy merchant, for some unknown reasons. The two women come across in their journey to Tokei-ji. There, Jogo and Ogin meet Shinjiro, his aunt and the others who are trying to help the women with various ideas to start a new life.

General of the Three Kingdoms, Kongming had struggled his whole life, facing countless battles that made him into the accomplished strategist he was. So on his deathbed, he wished only to be reborn into a peaceful world and was sent straight to modern-day party-central, Tokyo! Kazutoyo lived during the end of the Sengoku period (1546-1605). He was the first feudal lord of the fief of Tosa on the island of Shikoku. He served Nobunaga Oda, Hideyoshi Toyotomi and Tokugawa Ieyasu.

Chiyo (1557-1617) was his wife, and was known in history for her dedication and devotion to her husband (like Matsu was to Toshiie in Toshiie to Matsu). She is the daughter of a samurai who served the feudal lord Asai.

When Shimizu Mokomi was a child, she created her own imaginary world. She would have conversations with stuffed toys, stones, and plants. She also could sense the emotions of inanimate objects. Due to this, she was considered as a weird kid and scolded by people. Mokomi stopped going to school when was she in the 5th grade of elementary school. She eventually graduated from high school by taking correspondence courses. She continued to spend most of her time talking with things in her room and indulging in her fantasy world. She didn't always stay inside though. Her older sibling sometimes took her out. At the age of 20, Mokomi began working part-time at a small factory on her mother's recommendation. Her job was to pick out defective items. A year later, Mokomi still has her part-time factory job and she does her job well. Sometimes, she talks to things in the factory as if they have feelings. This causes trouble at the factory. She decides she doesn't want to work at the factory anymore. On her 22nd birthday, someone visits her.

It's Shouko Komi's first day at the prestigious Itan Private High School, and she has already risen to the status of the school's Madonna. With long black hair and a tall, graceful appearance, she captures the attention of anyone who comes across her. There's just one problem though—despite her popularity, Shouko is terrible at communicating with others. Hitohito Tadano is your average high school boy. With his life motto of "read the situation and make sure to stay away from trouble," he quickly finds that sitting next to Shouko has made him the enemy of everyone in his class! One day, knocked out by accident, Hitohito later wakes up to the sound of Shouko's "meow." He lies that he heard nothing, causing Shouko to run away. But before she can escape, Hitohito surmises that Shouko is not able to talk to others easily—in fact, she has never been able to make a single friend. Hitohito resolves to help Shouko with her goal of making one hundred friends so that she can overcome her communication disorder.

Kusakabe Eiji was part of the Criminal Division but was forced to move to another department after getting injured in an incident. He was told to move to the Life Safety Division's General Affairs Section 2, often called as the "Hikikomori Section". The department consists of officers who are "socially withdrawn" and is tasked support the other police departments whenever there is a labor shortage.

One day, a lady visits the department and asks for help to find her missing fiancé. At the same time, a strangled body was found which belonged to Yamagishi Ryohei, the representative of a major IT company. While pursuing the case with Takase from the Criminal Division, it was found that Yamagishi was the missing fiancé and he had committed multiple marriage scams. The case gets complicated as it gets deeper. Can the Hikikomori Section find the truth without taking a step out of their room?

Mokomichi plays himself, the star of a cooking show. Each episode is set after his cooking show is broadcast. He goes on a date with a different woman each episode.

In this tale of bravery and honor among the roving gamblers of old Japan, the heroic Jirocho, Boss of the Tokaido is called upon to help a young yakuza named Eijiro after he runs afoul of the new samurai officials who have taken over his hometown. Jirocho, played by superstar Nakamura Kinnosuke, a boss known for his honor and valor soon finds himself involved in the feud which will only end in a brutal showdown.

Ruri, who is a beautiful woman and can also work, is thought to have a lot of love experience by the people around her, but in reality she is a beginner in love for 15 years without a boyfriend. Because of such a lapis lazuli, he decided to give a love affair to his junior Ryo, who is "perfect in appearance and content" but continues to be shaken.

Sugiyama (Ikki Sawamura) used to be the most popular copywriter at the largest advertising agency. He quit his job there to open up his own advertising agency, but his company doesn't do very well. He decides to move his company to a dead shopping district of a port town in decline. Even though the port town is lifeless and in serious decline, people go to see Sugiyama with small requests.
