Yoo Se Poong’s legendary abilities as a physician are well-known in the royal palace. Nonetheless, he was expelled from the royal court when his involvement in a conspiracy against the royal family came to light. He moves and begins work in the strange, but, beautiful, Gyesu Village.

There he meets Kye Ji Han, Sorak Village’s grumpy old doctor with the heart of gold. Upon the encounter with Yoo Se Poong, Kye Ji Han is motivated to transform the young doctor into one who heals hearts.

Another resident of the village is Seo Eun Woo, who hails from a noble family and has keen observational skills and deep empathy. Now a widow, she mirrors the stories of the heartbroken. She feels wronged by her sudden marriage and is about to become an unwilling wife who stays virtuous to a deceased husband.

Under the colonial rule of Japan, 400 or so Koreans who are conscripted into slave labor on 'The Battleship Island', attempt to escape for life. 1944, during the Japanese occupation of Korea, conscripted civilians head out to the Hashima island. Nicknamed 'The Battleship Island' after its resemblance to a war vessel, some are lured by false promises of high wages. LEE, a bandmaster of a jazz bigband and his only daughter, CHOI, a thug, and Mallyeon are among the workers. But upon arrival, they found that the island turns out to be an isolated hell where the workers are forced into slave labor. As the Pacific War nears its end, PARK, a Korean independence activist assigned on a mission to rescue a Korea's spiritual leader from the island. As the U.S. launches massive counterattack on Japan, the Japanese decided to blow up the island in order to bury the truth about their awful treatment of the Korean slave labors. PARK discovers the plan, and conspires with LEE and others for mass escape of all 400 Koreans.

Geum Byeol and Eun Byeol are twin sisters and have had a bad sibling relationship since they were little girls. Geum Byeol was treated like a princess by their mother while Eun Byeol was neglected and forced to give in to her sister all the time. The sisters had a long, tempestuous relationship but this conflict between them should have ended when they got married. Instead, their marriages took their sibling rivalry to new heights. This TV show revolves around unequal childhoods and how two siblings find themselves the daughters-in-law in two feuding families which they try to mediate. These multiple strained relationships between people are portrayed in a lighthearted way as the related parties eventually resolve their issues through forgiveness and love.

This makes him get involved in an unprecedented case of inaccurate reporting. He later finds himself facing the actual murder case in the middle of the aggressive news coverage competition by media, which does not get any better.

Three warriors from the Goryo Dynasty, Poong Chun, Deok Ki and Seol Rang pledge to fight for the impoverished people under the incompetent king and they lead a riot. However, due to Deok Ki's betrayal, Poong Chun dies and Seol Rang, as stricken by guilt, flees with Poong Chun's sword and his infant daughter, Hong Yi.

18 years later, the female warrior is now blind and she trains the young woman in martial arts. Soon Seol Rang reveals that she is the one who killed her parents. Hong Yi falls in utter shock, leaves Seol Rang and plans to get revenge on both her and Deok Ki, by now the most powerful man in the country. Soon blood will be shed.

Western Seoul train station, 1996. A baby is thrown into a coin locker. She is picked up by a beggar, who names her Il Yeong. When she turns 10, she is sold off to a woman referred to simply as Mother. She is raised by remorseless loan sharks until she is 18 years old, by which time she has become Mother's trusted right hand. One day, Il Yeong is given a task: to stay close to Suk Hyun, the son of a debtor. Over the course of a few days, she becomes friends with the boy and is exposed to a world she never knew existed. She envies the normalcy that other teenage girls enjoy and opens her heart to Suk Hyun. But when his father flees, Mother orders her to kill Suk Hyun. Il Yeong cannot go through with it and by making that single choice, she must now flee from the only family she has ever known.

Set in the 1960's. In post war Korea, the government decides to dispatch troops to Vietnam in an attempt to rebuild the country’s devastated economy. Joo Goo, a genius sculptor and renowned figure in the art scene of the day, is diagnosed with a progressive disorder that eventually leads to total paralysis of the body. In despair, he abandons work and loses the meaning of life. His wife, Jung Sook, who could not watch her husband perish day after day, goes on a search of a nude model to encourage him to go back to work. Then one day, she comes across Min Gyung, a young mother with two children who suffered loss in the war.

Sun Hee is a mother of two children. She has worked as a contract worker for a large discount store for the past 5 years. Sun Hee has been promised numerous times that she would eventually be promoted to a regular full-time employee. Hye Mi is a single mother and works with Sun Hee as a contract worker. Soon Rye works as a janitor at the same discount store and is also a contract worker.

One day, the contract workers learn that they will be dismissed. The workers panic, but Hye Mi and Soon Rye suggests that they form a union to fight for their rights. Sun Hee is nominated with Hye Mi and Soon Rye to represent the contract workers. A struggle between the contract workers and management takes place.

Sung Soo is a successful businessman who lives with his wife Min Ji and their 2 children in a luxury apartment. Life is mostly good, except for an older brother from whom he's estranged.

One day, Sung Soo receives a phone call that his brother is missing and goes to his brother's apartment building for the first time in decades to look for him. There, he finds strange symbols carved into every door and meets Joo Hee and her young daughter. Joo Hee is convinced that someone is spying on them and lives in constant fear. Sung Soo figures out that the symbols carved onto the doors are "hide and seek codes" that indicate gender and number of people. Then when he returns home, he finds similar symbols carved into his door.
