In-Soo (Kang Ha-Neul) has a special gift to see ghosts and has become isolated from other students because of this. He transfers to a high school in a rural area outside of Seoul. There, In-Soo meets a female ghost (Kim So-Eun) at the high school and forms a friendship with her. Meanwhile, classmates disappear one by one.

There is a house where a family of four live: mother, her eldest daughter Young-hee who is married, younger daughter Kkot-nip who is in high school and Young-hee’s husband Sang-ho. The family is filled with happiness when Young-hee gives birth to a child, but an unfortunate mishap caused by mother leads to the death of the child. Totally distraught, Young-hee decides to leave her mother’s house with her husband. Mother’s Alzheimer’s condition worsens with the couple moving out and Kkot-nip is forced to live in anxiety. At school she is pushed around by schoolmate Jung-hye and at home she has to deal with her mother who has issues of controlling her emotions. With no one to help her, Kkot-nip is driven to the edge.

The heroine is sent a mysterious note inviting her to join the Liar Game and given a huge amount of money, and she is instructed to somehow trick the other player out of their sum. When she falls victim to the other player instead, her former teacher, she loses her money and, in desperation, asks a consummate swindler to help her win the game
