    Fujiwara Hana and Katayama Mizuki have been best friends since elementary school. When Hana gets dumped by her boyfriend who was cheating on her, Hana and Mizuki take a trip together to relieve her heartbreak. They meet two guys – Narita Yosuke and Ichinose Ayumu – at a hot spring inn at their destination. Although they have only just become acquainted, Yosuke suddenly chides Hana, who does not have it in her nature to speak her mind. At first, Hana gets defensive. But she starts to realize that her inability to speak out because she is too mindful of others is a shortcoming and tries to change. On the other hand, Mizuki, who has never dated seriously before, wants to be loved. Yosuke is despised for saying things that he thinks are for the other party’s sake while Ayumu is a mixture of kindness and frivolousness. Then there is Ayumu’s “younger brother” Kanata (Shimasaki Toa). Friendship, jealousy, betrayal, and quarrels swirl in each of them. They start to come to terms with themselves through love.

Hiroshi opposes the loan due to the supermarket's non-existent efforts to restructure. Meanwhile, Vice President of Planning Department, Ninohe Tetsuya, insists on approving the loan. He believes if the supermarket goes bankrupt than it will effect the bank itself. Also, Tetsuya has a strong dislike of Hiroshi. Tetsuya then devises a scheme that will get Hiroshi in trouble. At this time, a store of the giant supermarket chain is blown up. A message from the perpetrator arrives. The bomber demands the resignation of the supermarket CEO, Kazama Kozo. The CEO runs the supermarket in a dictatorial management style. If the demand the bomber's demand is not met, the bomber will carry out more explosions. The supermarket tries to coverup the bomber's demand as they fear the collapse of their company stock. Hiroshi though insists fiercely that the bomber's message should go public. Detective Yaen Hiromitsu begins to suspect a young man named Inunaki Ko Inunaki as the bomber. Inunaki Ko was at the scene of the crime.

    Kyonosuke Kawamura is the successor to the prestigious Kishima family. He performs as a kabuki stage actor. One day, as he is leaving the theater, Kyonosuke Kawamura hears cheers from girls who are waiting for him. There, Ayame Chiba, who also attends the same high school, approaches him and shouts out "that is not Kagamijishi and I want my money back!"

    Due to excessive expectation as the successor of the Kishima family, Kyonosuke becomes sick and tired of kabuki. He plays with best friend Haruhiko Sakamoto and female fans until late into the night. When he arrives back home, his father Yozaemon, who is a master in kabuki, scolds him. An argument ensues. Yozaemon has never acknowledged Kyonosuke's efforts. That is a big reason why Kyonosuke has become estranged from kabuki. He also can't forgive his father for always placing kabuki as his first priority. His father did not show up when his mother became gravely ill and died.

    Kyonosuke then meets Ayame at school. She again complains about his performance. Kyonosuke also learns that Ayame has a favorite actor. He's embarrassed by her complaints. For his next performance, Kyonosuke shows up practice, but he is chewed out by his instructor Matsukichi. Others, including Shohei Sawayama, watch this and make fun of Kyonosuke behind his back. Kyonosuke also hears from his rival Ichiya Sawayama that he was shocked at his performance. Kyonosuke feels numb.

This is the story of the life of the loving and faithful dog Happy and his owner (Toshiyuki Nishida). Told from the dog's point of view, it follows him from his puppyhood with a peaceful family, through life's changes, and to the long journey he finally makes with his owner, who he calls "father". A second story, "Himawarisou", continues the narrative, following the caseworker Okutsu Kyousuke (Tetsuji Tamayama). As he investigates the situation above, he remembers his late family and his own dog's unfailing loyalty.

Their two sisters Shizu and Sachie are sent back to Japan and have to experience the horrors of war, one in Hiroshima and the other in Okinawa.
