Season 20 of Kasouken no Onna.

Sakaki Mariko attends an annual concert held by the Kyoto Prefecture Police Music Band. At that time, Mariko hears from Domon Kaoru that a woman's dead body is found under a cliff. The victim is Konno Megumi, and she was murdered. The fingerprint of Katsumata Toru is found on the guitar which belonged to the victim. Toru is a guitarist in the police music band. As a result of the examination of musical instruments belonging to the police music band, Mariko and Kaoru discover a hidden truth behind Megumi's murder.

After waking up from a month-long coma due to injuries sustained in a reckless, heated investigation, detective Yashiro Tomo quickly returns to work at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. She is ordered to transfer from the First Investigative Division’s Violent Crimes Unit to the Sixth Special Investigations Unit. Located in the basement, it is in charge of deciphering documents of unsolved cases. Despite Tomo’s bewilderment, she begins work in her new postalong with a brusque senior detective Narumi Risa who is called the expert of document deciphering for her unusual ability to predict the personality and thoughts of a writer from writings. However, the reality is that this kind of work is nothing more than that of a “storekeeper” of investigation materials.

Members of the Science Research Institute including Sakaki Mariko from the Kyoto Prefectural Police Crime Lab try to solve cases by using forensic medicine, physics and chemistry. Sakaki Mariko goes by the motto "Science never lies."

As criminals become more sophisticated and crimes more complex, the police must turn to speedier and more scientific means of weeding through clues and narrowing down suspects. That's where the forensics labs come into play. Sasaki Mariko is a highly talented forensics scientist who must dodge stereotypes, as well as disparaging comments from veteran detectives.

Disappointed by the news that the object of her affection is getting married, Takako (Kikuchi Akiko) quits her job suddenly. She soon receives an offer from her uncle Satoru, who asks for her to come help run his bookstore in Jinbocho; a district of Tokyo with a high concentration of book stores, publishing companies, and distribution warehouses. Thus begins her everyday life at Morisaki Bookstore, where she absorbs the unique atmosphere and meets various quirky customers. Takako hadn’t read many novels in her life, but she finds herself being gradually drawn into the world of second-hand books. As summer turns to fall and winter in Jinbocho, Takako experiences personal growth through introspection and her newfound love of books.

Segawa Kiichi or otherwise known as "Keebou" has recently moved back to his hometown due to a business transfer after years of life in Tokyo. Kiichi is a mediocre salesman for a medical-equipment manufacturer.

One day, when he goes drinking at a hostess pub with one of his colleagues, he is confronted with a former gang member turned yakuza leader, Tagawa. Kiichi used to be a leader of a small gang called "Who Are You" back in his youth himself and the two are familiar faces. Tagawa tells his group that Kiichi let his own team get beaten up ten years ago and that he is the most cowardly living man of the century. Tagawa and his yakuza group have captured a 10-year-old girl for some reason, and although he does not want to get involved at first, Kiichi ends up helping the little girl escape from them. Soon, he pays the price for it. When members of Kiichi's old gang, "Who Are You" learn of their leader's return and the adverse circumstance he is in, they round up to take on the yakuza to save him despite their resentment for their leader's betrayal a decade ago.

Pathologist Dr. Andou Mitsuo gets tangled into the web of the video tape and Yamamura Sadako by pure luck. Unbeknown to the circumstances of discovering the tape, Mitsuo resumed the search to find the real 'truth' that was left hanging from Takayama Ryuuji and Asakawa Kazuyuki as Sadako continues to lurk, killing more people faster in another way than by watching the tape.

Hachiro is a former boxer, now working as a debt collector for a finance company. He is sent to collect money from Kazuma, a former trainee doctor who has fallen on hard times ever since the suicide of his girlfriend. Hachiro pursues Kazuma into a bank, where Kazuma convinces the staff that the debt collector is, in fact, an armed robber. Although he is falsely arrested, Hachiro develops a liking for the roguish renegade and even offers to help him evade other debt collectors.
