Shiratama Sayako has never experienced much good luck. Since she was a child, she dreamed of becoming an architect. She studied hard, but she repeatedly failed her university entrance exams. Now, she is 30 years old and works in a field far away from her ideal job. One day, she happens to meet mysterious university student Ogasawara Taku. She tells him about her past dream of becoming an architect. Ogasawara Taku tells her that it is never too late and that she can still get accepted into a university. Inspired by their talk, Shiratama Sayako decides to study once again for her university entrance exams. After she studies so hard, she finally gets accepted into a university. There, Shiratama Sayako meets Ogasawara Taku again, who is a senior in the architecture department.

Her mother passed away when she was still a child, and she lived with her father Teruo and younger brother. Although Chiyo could not be put through elementary school, she has the gift of the gab and quick wit. At the age of 9, she starts working as a servant in Dotonbori and comes across the theatre world which immediately captivates her. Chiyo’s desire to become an actress grows stronger by the day. She eventually runs away and heads to Kyoto where she throws herself into acting.

As his consciousness fades, he sees the back of the soapland girl making her escape... A fresh set of regret blankets him as he passes out, he returns to his 16-year-old body while remaining 46 years old. The time is 1986. Rekihiko Tokiya is an excellent detective in Kyoto. While chasing a suspect, Rekihiko Tokiya falls into a water storage pool at an abandoned factory. He wakes up in a hospital room, stunned that he cannot remember anything from the last 20 years. Although he is 51 years old, he cannot recall anything past the age of 31 when he first started working as a detective. He is a divorcee, but he does not remember his ex-wife. His personality also changes, once confident but now meek and timid. His sense of justice is still strong. Rekihiko Tokiya resumes work as a detective, but he deals with cases differently than in the past.

A story-a-week episodic medical mystery that treats the theme of reality changing when faced with imminent death. Mystery and exhilarating human drama unfold against the backdrop of the “unnatural death institute”, or “UDI”. For example, the body of a young man is brought into the UDI lab one day; his cause of death attributed to ischemic heart disease in which blood fails to be conveyed to the heart. But the victim’s parents are puzzled by the freak nature of their son’s death and turn to medical coroner Mikoto, to find out why. Together with her lab technician partner, Yuko Shoji, and rookie medical recorder, Rokuro, they examine the body for a possible drug poisoning and then learn that another female colleague of the deceased man has just died suddenly.

Salaryman Fukase Kazuhisa graduated from a famous university but his life is very ordinary and unremarkable. His only hobby – if it can be called that – is drinking coffee. Coffee, in fact, leads him to Mihoko Ochi, who becomes his girlfriend.
