While watching him, Nakamachi Asuka regains her passion she had as a teacher and she faces the frustration she holds.

In the southernmost part of Japan, 20 fishing boats of an unknown nationality suddenly fire upon and occupy parts of the Hateruma archipelago. Members of the Japan Coast Guard are detained. Kouno Etsuko loves fashion and dreams of working at the editorial department of the company which publishes the fashion magazine ‘Lassy’. She has been taking the employment exam for several years. However, she is constantly rejected because the editorial department has not been hiring for some time. Even so, Etsuko perseveres and goes for the interview every year to the extent that she is now a famous person in the company. One night a week later, Etsuko receives a phone call from the human resource department about a job offer and is overjoyed. And so, she heads to Lassy’s editorial department in high spirits on her first day of work. She is told that she has got the department wrong and is designated to the very unglamorous proofreading department, which checks for misspelling, missing characters, errors or inconsistencies in the content of manuscripts before these go to print. Under the assumption that she had been assigned to the editorial department, Etsuko vehemently protests to Takehara Sho-on, the head of the proofreading department. Takehara tells her that she may be able to transfer to the department of her choice if her work here is recognised. So Etsuko decides to work hard at proofreading with the goal of transferring to the editorial department. Although she starts learning the basics of proofreading, she does not have sufficient knowledge of kanji. Her exasperated seniors find her unsuitable for the job of proofreading and Etsuko pours out her frustrations about her work to Toyoko and company receptionist, Imai Seishiru. Then Etsuko gets assigned to proofread the manuscript of popular leading mystery writer, Hongo Daisaku, because she is the only one in the department who is free. Dressed in flashy clothes, she enthusiastically tackles her first job, going beyond her proofreading work to get into actual locations to verify facts. She tries to do her job to perfection for a transfer to the editorial department, but her unorthodox approach to proofreading infuriates Kaizuka Hachiro, the editor in charge. Then Hongo asks to see the person who proofread his manuscript. Meanwhile, Toyoko is told by her editor, Kamei Sayaka, to look for candidates to be the magazine’s first exclusive male model. Junichi becomes the first successful brain transplant patient in the world.

Junichi is unaware that he received a brain transplant. When he is discharged from the hospital, Junichi's hearing becomes sensitive and he also becomes violent. He does not hold the same feelings for his girlfriend, Megumi. Junichi realizes he is changing and becomes seized with horror. Meanwhile, Megumi hopes Junich becomes his old self. She also seeks to unlock the hidden mystery of Junichi's operation.

The different characters range from a company president who distrusts human beings, to a train driver who just received the shocking diagnosis that he has only half a year left to live. # "Eve no Koibito" ('Christmas Eve Lover') - A company president (Tamaki) meets a woman (Takanashi), who just lost a beloved person, in a restaurant at Tokyo Station. He thinks that all women only like his money and enjoys being alone. She originally moved to Tokyo to become an actress, but now she is planning to go back to her hometown right after her short play at an orphanage. # "Enkyori Renai" ('Long Distance Relationship') - A love-dovey couple that is going through a long distance relationship. She (Kimura) is an aspiring fashion designer in Tokyo and he (Higashide) is a construction worker in Sendai. Will their hectic schedules allow them to at least meet each other on Christmas? # "Christmas Present" - Ichikawa plays a woman who works in an orphanage. That day she is waiting for the new mother of the 7-year-old Akane to come and pick her up. # "Nibun no Ichi Seijin Shiki" ('A Half Coming-Of-Age Ceremony') - A train driver (Tokito) who cannot bring himself to tell his son that he only has half a year left to live. Shuta, Saku and Michiru have been best friends since they were kids. Tragedy strikes the friends when during the winter of 2010, Saku dies from a heart attack. After Saku's death, Shuta and Michiru become more distant. On the third year anniversary of Saku's death, Shuta boards a train in the Enoshima subway. Somehow, Shuta travels back in time to 2010, before Saku died from a heart attack. Although Shuta is confused by the time change, he attempts to save Saku by changing the past.

The drama is based on the best-selling same-titled novel by Shigematsu Kiyoshi. It tells the story of how a widower brought up his only son, after the death of his beloved wife. Ichikawa Yasuo, or Yasu as he is known, is a baka, with no paper qualifications to his name. However, like all normal parents, he dotes on his only son, Akira. Having grown up without his parents around, Yasu himself knows next to nothing of what parenting is about. With his wife, Misako, by his side, he had spent many happy days together with his little family.

However, when Akira was 3 years old, Misako passed away suddenly from an accident. Heart-broken, and filled with regrets, Yasu pulled himself together, in order to care for his little son. Together with the help of his friends, Yasu overcame it all, and Akira grew up to be a bright and successful young man.

Through the introduction of his friend Danma Ryuji, Onizuka Eikichi, the former legendary bike gang member, visits Meishu Academy to tend to the trees in the garden as a part-time gardener.
