25-year-old Ryota Suwanori is in his first year as a medical intern at a university teaching hospital. During his childhood, his father died from a disease and his mother remarried. Even though Ryota Suwanori’s stepfather adored him, Ryota Suwanori always checked his stepfather's mood to see if he was hated. His childhood experience now leads him to get along well with people and also become perceptive to their behavior. That also affects him as a medical intern. He carefully checks his patients' condition and approaches patients who has problems. Being trained by a preceptor, Ryota Suwanori works hard with his fellow interns. During this time, he also grows into a real doctor.

Shingyoji Kome has recently begun work at Marufuku Komuten, which is a home renovation company. She is 30-years-old and single. The company where she works is owned and run by the Fukuyama family. Shingyoji Kome worked as a sales ace for a large construction company, but she made a mistake that led to her losing her job. Shingyoji Kome is now paired with Fukuyama Gennosuke, who has zero ability in his sales position. Fukuyama Gennosuke is a single parent and he is also the first son of the Fukuyama family that owns the company. Kome Shingyoji works with Gennosuke Fukuyama as her partner and she is responsible in training him. They work together and deal with problems brought by clients.

Shimura Takafumi is a detective, who works under an obsessive level belief that criminals must be punished. He will resort to any means to arrest criminals. Due to his excessive behavior, he has been demoted to a special investigation team that works on unsolved cases. He is ordered to work with Kiriko.

Kiriko is known as Invisible, the crime coordinator in the underworld. She mediates transactions for organized criminals. Kiriko flies under the radar of many and even only a few in the police department are aware of her existence. One day, Kiriko suddenly offers to help the police arrest criminals. She is willing to provide information on unsolved cases and violent criminals. Her only condition is that she wants to work with Shimura Takafumi.

In 1995, Takakura Soichiro is a scientist who works on developing a robot. He is also on the verge of completing a plasma battery, following on the wishes of the deceased Matsushita. Matsushita was a friend of Takakura's late father and raise Takakura as his son.

Outside of work, Soichiro Takakura has peaceful days with his cat Pete, his girlfriend, Shiraishi san, and Riko the daughter of Matsushita. He is soon betrayed by his business partner and by his girlfriend, Takakura loses control of his company and the work he has done on the robot and plasma battery.

Takakura then opts to place himself into a "cold sleep" freezing machine, hoping to find a better future. When he wakes up, he discovers that he is in the year 2025.

While the finances of samurai families were tight, people would entrust their household budget on a half-yearly basis to a roving steward who is the modern day accountant and management consultant. Karaki Ichibei (Mukai Osamu) takes care of the household budgets of families in desperate financial situations. He is not only adept at the abacus but also the sword. The selfless Ichibei goes over to all sorts of residences with his favourite abacus and helps people tormented by evil with a sword supple like the wind.

Michinari Shiga works as a deputy editor for weekly magazine Shukan Jiryu. The magazine has seen a rise in its sales by breaking numerous scandals. Michinari Shiga lives his life faithfully as a journalist, but his life suddenly changes. His son, who attends a university, kills someone he has stalked and then kills himself. Instead of chasing after scandals, Michinari Shiga now finds himself the target of other journalists. He is also demoted to another magazine and his relationship with his wife deteriorates. He falls into a desperate situation, but he approaches the truth behind his son's case.

A couple of months have passed since the serial murder case. A new dead body is found in the same area. Detective Manabu Kagaya tries to find the truth. He goes to see serial killer Yoshiharu Urano in prison.

27-year-old IT manager Boku Sato works for a market survey company. One night, his boss Fujima was devastated over the disappearance of his family and damages some equipment. Sato, on the other hand, spills coffee over the servers causing them to lose their client's data. Due to the incident, he was demoted and was tasked to give out questionnaires at the Sendai station. Nobody was willing to participate in filling out the survey except Saki, a woman in a recruit suit with the word "shampoo" on her hand.

Another story is of Minako, a 27-year-old beautician. Kasumi introduces her to Manabu, her younger brother, but all Manabu ever does is call Minako on the phone. While she does enjoy their conversations, Minako finds it hard to take the next step and they never actually go out together. Kasumi tells Minako he intends to ask her to be his girlfriend if he wins the boxing match.

Asami Inaba is a temporary worker at a company. One day, her boyfriend leaves his smartphone in a taxi. Since then, mysterious things take place around her like her credit card bill having charges she did not place. She gets involved in a big case.

When a Japanese housewife has an affair while her husband is hard at work providing for the family the phrase goes 'heijitsu hirugao tsuma.' When a Japanese woman sleeps with a married teacher she is shunned and shamed and has to change her name and residence. yet, that is not their end. There is more to come.

Fumi becomes Genzui Kusaka’s wife. During the turbulent times of the closing days for the Tokugawa shogunate, she lives positively and tries to keep up Shoin Yoshida's will. Shoin Yoshida is her older brother and intellectual.

Himawari is an unsuccessful 39-year-old enka singer who has bad luck with men and money. Born into an Osaka takoyaki shop, the young Himawari was inspired by her father's words to immerse herself in enka. At the age of 13 her father disappears and her mother, bitter over the husband that left her, remarries--but Himawari has trouble adjusting to a new father and brother. With her father's words in her head--"You're the #1 singer in all of Japan!"--Himawari immediately heads to Tokyo after high school and makes her debut as an enka singer.

Uno Meiko is the daughter of parents who run a western style restaurant in Tokyo. She marries and moves to Osaka with her husband. Meiko experiences cultural differences between Tokyo and Osaka, as she lives as a mother and wife in Osaka.

The plot revolves around a young man named Nagashima Kyohei who has felt emotionally detached due to a traumatic incident in his high school days. However, when he takes a job sorting through the personal belongings of the deceased, he's forced to face the concept of life and death. He eventually develops a relationship with a co-worker named Yuki Kubota, which allows him to open up a little more, but he soon discovers she has a dark past of her own.
