In Shanghai in 1943, Chen Qian, a military agent, was ordered to assassinate the Japanese, but fell into the trap of Yujiro Ida, the head of Japan's plum agency. Born on the day, and accidentally learned of the Japanese conspiracy. In order to stop the sinister plan of the invaders, Chen Qian began to receive special training, disguised as a Japanese envoy to visit Mei's agency again. Chen Qian, who went deep into the enemy's camp, walked step by step in the dark, walking on thin ice, and with the help of the Communist Party member Chun Yang, he repeatedly avoided danger.

When several Communists sacrificed, Chen Qian was strongly shocked and gradually strengthened his communist belief. After that, he cooperated with the Communist underground organization and successfully smashed the conspiracy of the Japanese aggressors. After the defeat of the Japanese army, Chen Qian returned to Juntong as a secret Communist Party member, and worked hand in hand with the new Communist Party's "Flying Sky".

Set towards the end of the Jin Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, Sumoer is a Khorchin Mongol woman with a generous personality. She is someone who would rather endure difficult times alone for the sake of others. Su Moer meets Dorgon at a horse competition and they form a tight bond. One day, her world is turned upside down when an army invades their territory. Sumoer loses her parents and her homeland. To receive the protection of the Great Jin, the Khorchin Mongols arrange a marriage alliance between Princess Bumubuqin and Huang Taiji. Sumoer is also sent to Jin as a handmaiden of the princess where she crosses paths with Dorgon again and realizes that he is a man of high power. Initially hesitant to admit her feelings for someone she cannot reach, Sumoer tries to stay away, but she becomes a woman that Dorgon can turn to in his time of need and their friendship blooming into a passionate romance.

About young village officer Dai Zhiqiang, who leads the citizens of Lian Xi village in developing the Dendrobium industry and alleviating poverty.

A small town man brings along his mother and his best friend to the big city to find work. Their temporarily lodge with an old buddy of his, who is at the time the center of conflicts between union workers fighting for their rights and unscrupulous bosses trying to crush their protests. The man learns to navigate the political landmines and climbs up the society ladder. Yet, he is privately dissatisfied withthe man he has become. He later finds a purpose in life and a cause greater than money and power.

Sui Tang Yanyi begins in the 580s with the conquest of the Chen dynasty (557-589) by the Sui dynasty under Emperor Wen, and concludes with the return of the Tang dynasty's Emperor Xuanzong to the capital Chang'an in 758 near the end of the An Lushan Rebellion (755-763).

The plot is made up of three main story lines.

The first, with Emperor Yang of Sui and his concubine Zhu Gui'er (朱貴兒) as the central characters, covers the events in the political arena and inner palace in the final years of the Sui dynasty.

The second story line narrates a turbulent period known as the transition from Sui to Tang, when heroes such as Qin Shubao,Shan Xiongxin (單雄信), Cheng Yaojin (程咬金) and Xu Maogong rise up to overthrow the Sui dynasty, followed by stories of how Li Shimin (the future Emperor Taizong of Tang) defeated his rivals and eventually solidified the Tang dynasty's sovereignty over China.

The last story line tells of the romance between Emperor Xuanzong of Tang and Consort Yang, and the events of the An Lushan Rebellion.
