A squadron of Japanese Self-Defense Force soldiers find themselves transported through time to their country's warring states era, when rival samurai clans were battling to become the supreme Shogun. The squad leader, Lt. Iba, sees this as the perfect opportunity to realize his dream of becoming the ruler of Japan. To achieve this, he teams his troops up with those of Kagatori, a samurai daimyo who also aspires to become Shogun. Are either of these power-hungry warriors to be trusted?

The original writing is a short mystery collection that takes a humorous approach to many of the genre's cliches. Matsuda stars as the "famous detective" Tenkaichi Daigoro, while Kashii Yu plays the female lead as a rookie cop.

Catherine Turner (Charlotte Kate Fox), the only daughter of America’s Vice President joined the family business after graduating from university. She accompanies her father to Japan for his official duties and decides to remain in Japan even after he leaves because of her goal of incorporating the Japanese art of flower arrangement into the business in America. Foreign Minister Hamaguchi Yukio (Satomi Kotaro), who is on good terms with the Vice President, gets his nephew Hamaguchi Ichiro (Tanihara Shosuke), an associate professor at Kyoraku University, to attend to Catherine during her stay. He sternly warns a completely unenthusiastic Ichiro not to fall in love with her and orders him on the special assignment. Catherine developed a strong interest in flower arrangement when she met the beautiful artist Ogawa Maiko (Fueki Yuko) at a solo exhibition that Maiko held in America. They became friends after that, and Catherine looks forward to meeting Maiko again. However, she has trouble contacting Maiko. Maiko ended up a victim in a murder case! Catherine wants to find out the truth of her friend’s death no matter what it takes. She goes to Ichiro for help and demonstrates competence as an investigator that puts the police to shame. There is a small French restaurant called Bistro Pas Mal which sells exquisite food and its own mulled wine in a nook of a working class neighbourhood in Tokyo. Its chef Mifune Shinobu trained at French-style inns and restaurants in the countryside of France for more than 10 years but has completely no interest in Michelin stars, status or titles. He has an outstanding memory of the flavours, colours and scents of ingredients and people’s faces, and also notices the smallest details. Despite Mifune’s taciturn, inscrutable nature and artisan spirit, he cares about people and wants to heal them with his food. However, his kind intentions can easily become meddlesome. Takatsuki Tomoyuki becomes a waiter at Bistro Pas Mal after a strange turn of events. But not long after he begins working there, he feels bewildered by the stream of troublesome customers coming to the restaurant such as the fussy Kasuya Koichi who makes special requests as well as Tsuruoka Tadashi who gets into an argument with Kawade Keiko, a woman that seems to be his girlfriend, and ends up finding fault with the dessert. Mifune helps unravel the problems or worries of these customers with his extraordinary powers of observation and deduction.
