Dong Ning Shu, a paternity tester, met second-generation heir Zhang Xi Da in an accident. Zhang Xi Da becomes attracted to Dong Ning Shu and decides to invest in the An He Paternity Center where she works. He also claims to be an internet celebrity, hoping to accumulate material for his own personal purpose. At first Dong Ning Shu doesn't like Zhang Xi Da, but she gradually comes to accept him as she gets to know his enthusiasm and warmth as they work together on various paternity cases, and Zhang Xi Da discovers the charm and importance of paternity testing. As they grow closer, they discover each other's secrets and uncover one particularly disturbing one...what will they do when they find out they might share the same father?

The story starts in 1937 when the war against the Japanese aggression broke. It revolves around Zhang Han Shi/Zhang Song Ling who is a simple man born into a family of scholars. On the eve of his wedding, his wife and family were murdered but he luckily survived. He then embarked in his quest for revenge joining the communist party and the mounting anti-Japanese resistance.

It tells the story of prosecutor Gao Jian, assistant prosecutor Fu Xiaorou and other individuals who strive to restore the truth through the justice system.

Gao Jian is a special prosecutor of the Jiangdong Procuratorate. Strict and prudent, he is the type of person who does not tolerate even a single mistake. Fu Xiao Rou's addition to the team as an assistant brings new vitality to the office.

At the same time, several corruption cases shake up the established Jiangdong Group. Tie Rong Guang commits suicide in prison. Although his son Tie Li and Gao Jian have been friends for many years, Tie Li finds himself unable to let go so he chooses to leave Jiangdong.

Meanwhile, traces of Jiangdong Group remain in Gao Jian's prosecution case. While investigating an illegal fundraising case, it was discovered that Tie Li has returned with a goal to track down his father's killers. A showdown between righteousness and evil begins.

The plot’s initial development revolves around a coveted martial arts manual known as the “Bixie Swordplay Manual”. The manual is an heirloom of the Lin family, who run the Fuwei Escort Agency, a private security service, in Fuzhou. Yu Canghai, the leader of the Qingcheng Sect, leads his followers to massacre the Lins and attempts to seize the manual for himself but does not find it. Lin Pingzhi, the sole survivor from the Lin family, is saved by Yue Buqun, the head of the Mount Hua Sect, which is a member of the Five Mountains Sword Sects Alliance. Yue Buqun accepts Lin Pingzhi as an apprentice and trains him in swordplay.

The novel’s protagonist is Yue Buqun’s most senior apprentice, Linghu Chong, an orphaned, happy-go-lucky but honorable swordsman who has a penchant for alcoholic drinks. He befriends the notorious bandit Tian Boguang and saves Yilin, a nun from the (North) Mount Heng Sect, from Tian’s lecherous advances. In the meantime, Liu Zhengfeng of the (South) Mount Heng Sect announces his decision to leave the jianghu (martial artists’ community) and invites his fellow martial artists to witness his retirement ceremony. The event turns into a bloodbath when Zuo Lengshan, the chief of the Mount Song Sect, and other orthodox sects accuse Liu Zhengfeng of being unfaithful to their code by befriending Qu Yang, an elder of the “evil” Sun Moon Holy Cult. Liu and Qu are cornered by Zuo and his men and eventually commit suicide. Before dying, Liu and Qu give Linghu Chong the score of Xiaoao Jianghu, a musical piece they composed together.
