    In 1970s Hong Kong, rapacious landlords try to evict 72 tenants but sworn brothers Ha Kung and Shek Kin help the group of 72 defeat the landlord and landlady and coincidentally rescue Pinky from a planned forced marriage. When both sworn brothers fall for Pinky and propose to her, she flips a coin heads or tails, they both cheated during the toss but Ha wins her hand in marriage.

    The sworn brothers become sworn enemies and Sheks hatred fuels intense rivalry against Ha in business dealings ranging from the manufacture of plastic flowers to the selling of stinky bean curd. Even after 40 years they continue to clash and in 2010 they are in keen competition selling electronics appliances in Sai Yeung Choi Street, Mongkok, the busiest street in the city and still home to the 72 tenants.

    This film used the 1973 Shaw Brothers film, The House of 72 Tenants as the blueprint. However, this story is a new creation, of which only some roles identical. This is the first film to introduce the new 2010 Shaw opening theme with a shortened version of the original fanfare.

    YUEN is kidnapped overseas by a group of rioters. He undergoes a dramatic personality change after the incident. YUEN's wife HO TSEUK NIN (Jamie Chik) has tried her best to console him but still cannot help him get over the unpleasant experience. Longing for more comfort and support, YUEN gets back with his ex-lover TUNG LING CHI (Kenix Kwok Ho Ying). NIN is heartbroken to learn about the affair and it has left the broken mirror that can't be mended.

    The identity of CHEUK YAT MING gives FU not only a sense of family warmth but also a sweet taste of romance. He finds himself in love with YUEN's little sister CHEUK YAT SUM (Anita Yuen). SUM is attracted to FU too but thinking that they are true biological siblings, she decides to keep her love under wraps and stays with her long-term admirer KO TOK MAN (Joe Ma) instead. This comes as a huge blow to FU. He is not willing to lose his love, but neither can he reveal his real identity. Caught up in the dilemma between love and money, FU finally chooses the fortune road of no return.

    It is all about a tough battle for money, a devious triangle of love, and a severe challenge to ethics.

Featuring more intricately woven story with plenty of twists and excellent fights, though rather short at times. Yuen Cheung Yan cameos as a seemingly silly-do-nothing role - his usual forte - whose guise hides his profound wisdom.

    To avenge the death of her entire clan, which was massacred by Emperor Yongzheng, Lu Siniang returns to her hometown Haining to seek help from her father's student, Miracle Healer Cao Tai Xu, who had once served Emperor Yongzheng. Understanding that he has a soft spot for food, Lu Siniang, uses her culinary skills to lure out Cao Tai Xu, who, having no intention to side with either party, has been living in anonymity. Eventually, he accedes to her imploration. Their first step to assassinating the emperor is to kidnap fourth prince Hongli, who is in Haining to suppress the pirates. Prior to his death, Abbot Xuanbei left a will requesting Northen Shaolin Temple's Xuanzhen to be Southern Shaolin Temple's abbot. Lay disciple Fang Shiyu was given the task of bringing Xuanzhen to Southern Shaolin. Along the way, Fang Shiyu meets Hongli, and inadvertently foils Lu Siniang's scheme.

    Xuanzhen eventually arrives, with him his favourite disciple Yun Ming, at Southern Shaolin to take up the position as its abbot. Yun Ming is the head of Northen Shaolin's Arhat Hall. Yun Ming now covets the leadership of the 36th Chamber of Southern Shaolin. Actually, he's the leader of a pack of orphans left behind by Japanese bandits, and he comes with a hidden agenda of reclaiming treasures buried at Southern Shaolin Temple. And so, a fierce competition ensues between Yun Ming and Fang Shiyu for the chief of 36th Chamber.

    With the assistance from Cao Tai Xu, Lu Siniang successfully sneaks into the palace and comes face to face with Emperor Yongzheng. Soon, news of Yongzheng's murder broke out and Hongli ascends the throne as Emperor Qianlong. Emperor Qianlong sends four Imperial Guards to arrest her. At the same time, he also issues a decree for Fang Shiyu to capture Lu Siniang...
