Koo Fung is adamantly against his master sacrificing himself and plotted with his martial brother, Duen Hoi, to steal the kung-fu manual so that he can learn it instead and kill his twin brother. However, during the attempt, Duen Hoi accidentally kills a fellow martial brother and in trying to hide his own blunder, Duen Hoi accuses Koo Fung of the murder. Koo Fung is chased down a mountain cliff by his clan and believed to have died. Duen Hoi, in his guilt, confesses under pressure to his master and took in Koo Fung's infant son, Koo Yuk Lau (Francis Ng), to raise as his own. Duen Fei (Stephen Chow), his real son, grows up to be a business-wise person but has no interests whatsoever in learning martial arts. He gets into a lot of trouble hanging around in the streets and is admonished by his father all the time. Koo Yuk Lau, on the other hand, is like a male prodigy--great wit, great martial arts, and leadership potential all in a package. Trouble begins to stir of course when he finds out who his real father is and when Koo Yim Yeung returns to cause more ruckus

Lok Fung is an orphan who works in a paper printing shop and desires to learn kung fu in "Yin Duk San Jong". His break comes one day and he becomes a student there. However, he is used only to run errands and many of his martial arts brothers pick on him. The eldest son of Si Ma Zhong Wah is the only one in the entire school that treats Fung well, but he died early due to an illness. Fung is then taught by Si Ma Zhong Wah's brother. During his Kung Fu training days, he meets across three young ladies that will be the cause of the turbulence in his future: Yiu Chi Ping, a young prophet who was newly hired to work in Yin Duk San Jong; Ling Seung, who lives in a ship that is considered a brothel; and Hak Lin But But, a spoiled and playful daughter of Hak Ling Gao's leader, Hak Lin Mung Seun.

The story is set in ancient China during the Southern Song Dynasty. Emperor Gaozong is deceived by the treacherous premier Qin Hui and he puts the patriotic general Yue Fei to death. Qin Hui's supporters dominate the imperial court, leading to widespread corruption in the government. Some righteous ministers oppose Qin Hui, but do not dare to challenge him directly, so they form the secret organization Haoxia to undermine his influence. Eight people with special skills and abilities receive invitations to join Haoxia and their heroic quest begins. The plot's development is based on several loosely-connected subplots and short stories, and ends with a grand finale of a showdown between the heroes and Qin Hui's forces.

Wen Tian Lu is a Chinese drama that follows a young Zhong Kui as he bands together with his friends to form a three-man team dedicated to catching demons.

The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber is a Taiwanese television series adapted from Louis Cha's novel of the same title. The series was first broadcast on TTV in Taiwan from 1993 to 1994.
