Detective Kuroha Yu (Anne) is a sharp shooter who works for the Mobile Investigation Unit of Kanagawa Prefectural Police’s headquarters. Her unit would rush to the scene and conduct the initial investigation when a case occurs. One day, the bodies of 14 men and women are found frozen to death in rental containers in the harbour district. Kuroha, who was the first person to make the discovery, is assigned to the investigation task force for the mass suicide. During the investigation, a suicide note is found. The task force leader, Kaga Kota (Ikeuchi Hiroyuki), believes this case is a straightforward mass suicide. However, Kuroha insists that they should search for the mastermind who assisted the suicides, and has a confrontation with him. That night, Kuroha asks her elder sister, Ryo (Konishi Manami), who is a psychiatrist, for her opinion on the unnatural suicides. Ryo’s advice that there should have been other suicide notes equal to the number of people, spurs Kuroha to set out to investigate on her own. There is a group on the Internet called “Wisdom of the Deep Forest” which talks freely about crimes at night. Kuroha interacts with the anonymous online citizens under the pseudonym, Ageha. One night after the case, a man who introduces himself as Raiun (Kobayashi Naoki) joins the group. The topic that night is euthanasia. Raiun expounds his own theory on euthanasia when a member called BJ (Red Rice) says he cannot understand it. Raiun’s views draw Kuroha’s attention. Kuroha’s low-profile investigation turns up one suicide note more than the number of dead bodies. Realising that there is a person who has not committed suicide yet, Kuroha and the rest of the task force search for this remaining person. But as they get closer to the heart of the case, something sinister beyond all imagination takes root … …

With the help of Sasahara (Hiroki Narimiya), who specializes in cleaning out the homes of recently deceased individuals, Asuka tries to find something from the old man's apartment to give to his family.

Among these people with habits which are unimaginable from their glamorous appearances, is the pediatrician Nishiwaki Mitsutaro (Sawamura Ikki) who writes a column for the newspaper. He seems to be the greatest philanderer in celebrity circles even though he has a wife (Nishida Naomi), and calls Sachiko out many times. But right after that, Machida Tomoe (Sakai Wakana), who had been her sister’s colleague in the same department, commits suicide. She leaves behind cryptic words for Sachiko regarding Nobuko’s death. “There is someone who should take responsibility”, “All the more if it is a famous person”. Sachiko’s hunch is that her sister’s death is connected to someone prominent that she had been dating while alive. However, the more she attempts to learn the truth, the more “suspects” meet suspicious deaths one after another until she no longer knows who is her friend or foe. Sachiko has unwittingly been sucked into a deep darkness as if she is wandering about in a dark, dense sea of trees with no exit.

April 4, 1959 in the early morning Detective Fujisawa Rokuro of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) was walking his dog along the banks of Tokyo's Musashino district, and found the body of a young woman. Her handbag, an express delivery envelope, and other possession were stil with her, her identity was immediately confirmed as airline stewardess Ikuta Setsuko. Initials her death was considered a suicide due to the visual evidence of a lack of struggle, and the peaceful expression on her face. Upon further examination the cause of her death was determined as suffocation. semen was also found at the scene leading detectives to believe the crime occurred shortly before the body was found.

Fujisawa unable to forget the peaceful expression on Setsuko's face makes a direct appeal to the head of criminal investigations. He is order to work in combination with young detective Ichimura Yoshitaka. Fujisawa is the ace of the MPD, but he tends to go off on his own and that sometimes gets him into trouble. Manager Takaku Ryo takes it upon himself to monitor Fujisawa and Ichimura's behavior.

The owner of the blue Renault, a young preist,mis found the be the sender of the express envelope found with the body. The young priest is the prime suspect, but this situation could become an international problem if handled incorrectly. One day while Fujisawa is on a stake out at the Church of Villiers were the young priest preaches a mysterious woman comes and speaks to the Chief Priest. They are “black teachers” who solve problems in return for large sums of money.
