The story is now set in a sci-fi-esque Xinyuan Civilization Year 253 where rising crime rate and its relation to "zero-degree empathy" have become a topic of interest. The murder of a deliveryman leads to a criminal organization and the culprit turns out to be someone with "zero-degree empathy". Police officer Luo Wei Zhao who is in charge of the case finds that things are not as simple as they seem. In subsequent cases, the wealthy Pei Su also seems to be caught in the middle.

The story of Chen Mo and his group of friends continues with Zhao Xiao Yu who can't seem to improve her grades no matter how hard she studies, Su Zhou who excels academically and socially, old fashioned Yao Cong Liang, and the eccentric Yu Bei Bei. As the new semester starts, Chen Mo, Su Zhou, and Cong Liang form a brotherhood with a new transfer student. Xiao Yu and Bei Bei who start out at odds with their class president end up becoming good friends with her. The rookie teacher who cries easily gradually finds the courage to handle the class on her own through Chen Mo's help. As the college entrance examination approaches, Su Zhou and Chen Mo discover each other's feelings for Xiao Yu.
